How is life there?
It really depends on how much money you were born into and how solid your family was/is. We are one of the worst countries in the world in terms of economic inequality. Even though we don't have blatant racism -mainly because up until 5 years ago, immigration was basically non existent- the system ravages the middle class (we are also one of the worst countries in therms of mental health) and treats the lower class (which is fukking huge) like cannon fodder for everything.
We've lived under a mirage of prosperity that basically made the 10% live amazing and the 1% become mindbogglingly rich in a 25 year span, while the rest had to fight for scraps and get drowned in debt or just live miserably for the rest of their lives. There's an in between were you can have a good/verygood life without having been born in privilege (that's were I'm at) but it's very, very frail and 1 strike of bad luck can fukk it all up and leave you with very little chances of going back to that level.
The fact that our neighbors are usually living a more fukked up situation than we are made us look (and in some cases feel) better than we actually were, it was also a big reason why immigration grew so much too. A good number of immigrant basically go
once they get here and realize what's up, the rest came from such a bad situation that as a 1st generation they are
about it (not sure how their kids and grandkids will feel if shyt doesn't change here though).
The last decade has basically destroyed all that perception internally though (except from the elites) and it all came crushing down in October with a "simple" raise on subway prices
looking back, is pretty funny THAT was the spark that lit the fire.
And well, police brutality is retarded levels here. If you ain't rich or don't look like you are from a higher class, you get treated like a criminal by default, and in a bad neighborhood anything can happen.
