We bout to be outta Afghanistan in 2 years and even if I did get sent there the chances of me getting murked are still pretty slim :manny:

The whole point of the military is to kill people, and blow things up. If you're not willing to be a part of that, don't join.

Don't join on some "shyt I'll just be a mechanic, I won't do any fighting" steez. If you aren't doing the fighting you're supporting those that are in some way or another. Plus, IED's dont' know a front line.

Also, just expect to be deployed to a combat zone...multiple times.

Deep in the south kickin uptop game
since when??? them dudes usually do 4-6 month deployments tops
my bestfriend's 2 older brothers are on there second and third deployments in the AF, both have been gone almost 10 months now with an unsaid return date, one of them told me their first deployment was actually 18 months, its all a roll of the dice, best way to avoid that IMO is the navy

I'm thinking about joining either the Marines or the National Guard. I'm 23 and I'm wondering what you guys think would be the better choice.

Couple questions I had:
Which has better benefits?
Pay, medical insurance and etc.? It's all available online.
2012 Military Pay Chart

How hard is it to get a bachelor's degree on active duty?
Why don't you go for ROTC (navy rotc, marine corps rotc, air force rotc, army rotc) if you have the brains to get a degree? Your "full-time" job during your time in school is to be a student. It's a free education but you have to keep your grades up and regularly go to ROTC exercises and drills. It's kind of late now for the fall 2012 school year. It's still an option for the fall 2013, and maybe you could try for spring 2013. I don't know about that though.

Is 23 too old for the Marines?
26 is max age for the MC.

Would I be :flabbynsick: among a bunch of 18 and 19 years old at boot camp?
No.
Not everyone who signs up is in shape, even at 18 or 19, before boot camp. So recruiters, because they want as many recruits to get in because it is directly related to their performance, will help provide information on how to get into shape. You get in shape now so you won't face difficulties. People do get turned back for not passing physical fitness requirements but can try again the next time.

the air force does year long + deployments in the sand, thats all i really know about the air force and that was all i really needed to know

In the air force depending on your job you can be on 4,6 ,even a 9 month deployment or even a year As far as going for a degree it all depends on your job and how you cordinate with you supervision

Is it true that you get some sort of financial bonus for being over in the desert? and if so, do you guys know the specifics of that (how much, fine-line stipulations, etc)?

tax free pay in danger zones, you'd get that in the navy too, all depends on what area your operating in. I remember durin my first deployment we was gettin tax free pay cause we was launchin planes in the arabian peninsula, then we got called to the horn of africa which isnt a danger zone, my captain took us all the way back to the peninsula just so we could cross the line and get tax free pay for that month even though we were in a danger zone

if you are for example like my cooks I had. I would have them on the guard roster while at our strong point. They cook/prep 12 hrs pull 4 hrs guard. MOS is immaterial today to be honest. Unit of Action and mission dictates whats going on.

So I looked into it and it looks like I won't be able to do any of the good jobs or any jobs with a security clearance because I have a Marijuana possession charge. Is it still worth it to join with a job that won't really teach me any skills?

In order to enter the AF what are the physical requirements? Like how far do I have to run and how fast do I have to run it?
