National Guard and Reserve have great educational benefits, but that's about it. You really don't get paid shyt for your one weekend a month. But there's a potential to get a shytload of college money that you can use right away. You can also earn a degree while on active duty, I did. But realize that you are committed to that branch fulltime, and you go to school during your freetime. I used to get off work around 5 PM, be in school around 6PM, and back home around 9:30 or 10PM. I even took Saturday classes that lasted about four hours. Pay is much better on active duty, and you get 100% free healthcare in addition to tuition assistance.
Don't let some of these fukkers who've never spent a day in the military influence your decisions. Go take your ASVAB and try to score as high as possible, because you will have more options that way, regardless of branch. One good thing about the Army is that you will be able to pick your job, so if you don't pick some combat arms job, you most likely won't be doing that kind of shyt. If you want a desk job, pick a desk job, or one of the cushier healthcare or mechanical jobs. I can't say the same about the AF, Navy, or USMC because I know that not everyone who joins them have 100% control over what job they end up doing. To me, picking my job was most important, because I didn't want to have a branch pick a job from some list for me and I end up hating life for 3 or 4 years because I'm ---- job, instead of the other job I really wanted. Oh, and there is potential to deploy, regardless of branch. What really matters is what job you have, because that's what determines if/how often you deploy and what you will most likely be doing while deployed or on a daily basis.
