Why the marines or national guard though?

I naturally try to steer people toward the navy cause I'm a navy vet, IMO its the best branch for people who ain't on no patriotic I love uncle Sam shut but want something they can turn into a carrier. For the most part the navy is the closest thing to an regular day to day job your gonna find within the military. A lot of people as scared by the thought of being on a boat but trust me when I say the chances of an American navy suit being attracted or sunk his extremely highly unlikely. In port I went to work Monday thru Friday, 7 am to 1 pm, with an occasional duty day on the weekend. While all the other branches are doing real deployments putting boots in the sand the navy's deployments are basically cruises that you get paid to go on. Out to sea for a couple weeks, when you hit port you free to do you. Pay and benefits are the same across the board as far as branches, unless your looking to see some real action, the navy is the best and safest bet

:ld:This sounds like me,
Except I've been told the Air Force is the best branch for such people.
How would you compare the 2?

I couldn't complain too much about the Navy, even though I think half the ppl in it aint shyt without rank. But other than that it's not that bad and its just my opinion.

If you do not want to go to any warzone, definitely don't join Marines or Army. I was gonna do Army (still might cross over) but honestly I didn't want to get shot at on the job, I could've stayed home for that. But one of my best friends did Marines now he's a contractor out in Afghan, doing better than me at the same job. I would only care to go to afghan for the $$$

Air Force is by far the best branch I know of for actually treating it's personnel like human-beings. The main problem is that they rank up SOOOOO SLOOOOW. The QOL is better, but you might get a base in Idaho somewhere too

If you aint bout that life go Air Force, chill, and fukk AF broads. Navy would be cool except for the fact that you could get deployed to the Gulf and be end up on that hot ass flight deck with jet exhaust blowing everywhere raising the 115 degree temp even fukking hire, plus you're in long sleeves, pants, float coat, and a fukking cranial and goggles.

National Guard and Reserve have great educational benefits, but that's about it. You really don't get paid shyt for your one weekend a month. But there's a potential to get a shytload of college money that you can use right away. You can also earn a degree while on active duty, I did. But realize that you are committed to that branch fulltime, and you go to school during your freetime. I used to get off work around 5 PM, be in school around 6PM, and back home around 9:30 or 10PM. I even took Saturday classes that lasted about four hours. Pay is much better on active duty, and you get 100% free healthcare in addition to tuition assistance.
Don't let some of these fukkers who've never spent a day in the military influence your decisions. Go take your ASVAB and try to score as high as possible, because you will have more options that way, regardless of branch. One good thing about the Army is that you will be able to pick your job, so if you don't pick some combat arms job, you most likely won't be doing that kind of shyt. If you want a desk job, pick a desk job, or one of the cushier healthcare or mechanical jobs. I can't say the same about the AF, Navy, or USMC because I know that not everyone who joins them have 100% control over what job they end up doing. To me, picking my job was most important, because I didn't want to have a branch pick a job from some list for me and I end up hating life for 3 or 4 years because I'm ---- job, instead of the other job I really wanted. Oh, and there is potential to deploy, regardless of branch. What really matters is what job you have, because that's what determines if/how often you deploy and what you will most likely be doing while deployed or on a daily basis.

In the air force depending on your job you can be on 4,6 ,even a 9 month deployment or even a year As far as going for a degree it all depends on your job and how you cordinate with you supervision
