This. I need to see who he hires as his OC! Ben Johnson would have handled the offense mainly so who he brought in as DC would have been interesting but Vrabel needs to get the OC right. Some talk about McDaniels but I don't want to go back there again!

Screens on 3rd and 9 :skip:

He is a good coach. Can pick a good DC or even run it himself at times. Knows all the intricacies of the game and can take advantage of rules other coaches have no idea about. He pretty much overachieved with us so those acting like 👑 Henry made him is funny. Henry had a coach before him and it didn't look like that.

Plus, he was one of the ones that wanted to keep AJ and was pissed at that when the GM tried to be on sum "light years ahead" shyt so he's in tune with personnel too.

He constantly won games he had no business winning or that people thought he wouldn't win (Chiefs, Ravens, Bills, Dolphins, etc).

The thing that will make or break him is his OC (promoting Arthur Smith and Todd Downing from TE coaches are 🗑️ moves). He needs somebody to fully unlock Drake Maye cuz that's the 🗝️ for him----not having to deal with a retread or Will f'n Levis as the mf in waiting.

Still fukked up how they did Mayo tho for this to happen.

They just didn't want vrabel to be the first coach after belli.
Bingo.

They looked at Mayo as a $2 lottery ticket.

If he got shyt popping in Year 1 and everything blossomed, they would sit back and get shine for winning AND hiring a breh.

Soon as things got rough (basically from the start), they were looking to dump him....ESPECIALLY after Drake Maye showed promise. If Maye was a Zach Wilson-ish bust, they would let Mayo cook a bit longer until they found the franchise QB.

Since it's possible they already got the dude, they wanna make sure they get a white coach in there to capitalize off the success. They probably wanted Vrabel from jump like you said....but they wanted to make HIS path easy. Let the breh be HC while it's pure trash and then let Vrabel come in when everything is teed up so he can benefit and look like a magical genius where the breh failed.

Never underestimate optics. Giants/Jets/Patriots.....they love them a white savior more than any group of franchises.

Patriots were defined by Beli and Brady, Coach and QB.

If Maye isn't Vrabel's guy, you need to throw him under the bus now and draft the QB you want in the draft this year because Vrabel strong suit is defense and not offense.

Oh yea you gotta get your :mjpls: posts up for Coli daps and likes. You weren’t tryna be objective or nuthin, got it

The last thing I do is pander... But it's clear as day that Mayo was a stop gap. "but he sucked"...maybe so, but was that not the expectation given the team is devoid of talent and he's a 1st year coach?

Any objective person could see that he didn't have much support and still did as well as the GOAT coach's final season.

I'll bet you one thing. Vrabel finishes with the same record next year he isn't getting fired.

First I want to say Vrabel is a good coach and the hire makes sense. But I can’t help but think that when you have a young QB as good as Maye you have to get an offensive mind. Ben Johnson would have been perfect. Vrabel’s last two OC choices in Tennessee were a disaster and Malik Willis has developed more in GB in two months than he did for two years under Vrabel. You cannot approach young QBs with the “do your job” Patriots Way. They need to be developed and molded, not scolded and dismissed.

Second we all should give Aaron Glenn a salute for refusing to participate in the sham coaching interview process the Pats just pulled off. They flew in a couple black guys to cover their asses. That’s it. At what point do teams stop allowing fraudulent coaching searches where the end goal is to just hire a Patriots guy? This didn’t work last season when they hired Mayo. It didn’t work for my squad when we hired a Pats guy who faked a search process just to select his buddy Matt Patricia. Obviously Vrabel is superior to both but this process was a sham.
