And to slightly pívot away from sports, it’s the same with our music. There was a plethora of musicians prior to the 90s.

This was a combination of two factors: their talent being honed in the church and schools offering different programs to teach music, as well as providing instruments.

Now look within the last 30 years… most of these ‘musicians’ don’t play any instruments or know the first thing about music theory. They’ve defunded so many school music programs, most music is made via Fruity Loops and the like.

And less people in the church meaning they’re not learning the science of singing: harmonies, runs, scales, vibrato. They’re learning it all from YouTube and they end up sounding trash on stage because they didn’t sing in a choir. Look at most singers today, and I guarantee most of them didn’t go to church.

Yes, we can say hip-hop culture has made generation X and onwards prefer using MPCs and turntables, but even producers from that generation still had an understanding of musicology. And I still consider rappers musicians.

But it’s a shame now seeing black bands, who all play instruments, are seen as anomalies when at one time it was the norm. Everyone knew someone who played bass, guitar, drums, keyboards, saxophone etc.

Seeing black folk like myself carrying our guitars seemed “alternative” back in the 2000s. :francis:

You're so damn right! Definitely cultural changes impact other aspects of culture i.e. music and athletics.

I'm so excited for his daughter to compete should she take that path!

Breh has a point that OK first people who have made money in things like sports are likely to encourage their kids to put time and effort into becoming excellent at it.
The ones who made enough money are likely to be exceptional athletes genetically and you combine that with the money to get them good coaching puts the average person at a deficit both genetically and training. Of course there's gonna be guys picked out the blue but you'll find the top tier guys have a history of athleticism in their family. Alot of the guys in the NBA are second generation or more athletes. You have guys like Gilbert Arenas kids coming up who get to play with all stars, have put in the work, had the coaching and have had to worry about nothing else other than being good at basketball. I'd be hooping from sunrise to sunset if that was my life and it didn't seem self indulgent.

I think about 40 NBA players had a father in the NBA the other non foreigners and non black make up the majority of the NBA. Most of them come from humble beginnings. That fear that both of you have isn’t based on reality.

a bunch of them had guys who were pro athletes. WEmbys folks were pro athletes, Risacher were pro athletes

I think you misunderstand me and maybe I mispoke i have to look back at what I said but pro athletes. Like you find the mom and dad did something athletically, doesn't necessarily mean they were in the league. But if you now did a list of how many of the nba players parents were athletes in any sport not necessarily in the nba it'd look a lot different.

Yeah I looked up what I said. I didn't mention NBA specifically as what the first generation did. But you'll find a lot of those cats their folks were in sports at some higher than normal level.

Magic Johnson is crying in the car somewhere, wondering where he went wrong.

Got caught cheating on wife

Caught aids while cheating on wife

Wife gave birth to gay drag queen

:picard:

Lol. Just told my pops today.

On the day I die, out on my headstone.
"Here lies Mag357. He died saying
Magic Johnson is a homosexual.
He got aids from having gay sex "

Soccer (footy) is a poor man’s sport
Yet I hear it’s extremely expensive in US

:francis:
Yup, its so dumb. You got this talking heads during ever international us game blaming the players (who do way better than many of them have done), but don't call out the fact that someone like Neymar wouldn't be found in one of these rich programs. Soccer is a ball and two parallel objects that you kick the ball between, that's it

Respectfully, y'all kinda taking the lazy road to thru the conversation.

Relatively speaking, football is expensive too.
Which is the reason I couldn't play, even tho it was the first sport I was attracted to.
And got pushed toward the much more cheaper sport, basketball.
But lots of people play football.

And Both sports are usually offered in school. obviously u should start young in any sport, which will take money but like I said, pads and shyt aint cheap.

Tennis, baseball and sports like soccer, which is a inexpensive sport, wasn't "promoted" toward us kids in the hood.
Really it's because how certain sports are looked at by black people.

Just like sports in general is pushed more toward us than education... Certain sports are pushed more than other sports

Tennis is an elitist sport.

That you could say,....
Black people do not push others into.

Yet we are all raised.
in the purposeful erosion of the scholastic system from the udc.

So an elitist sport like tennis.

which was offered like boxing in the school system before you or was born then taken away. Before you or I was born.
When previously the crack generation was created from rhe government and a disgruntled tennis player in rick ross.

So tennis was offered. Yet taken away as part of rhis purposeful plan.

Yet in my hood.

Where the number one junior in the world lived.
on the same major thoroughfare as me. Which also housed a top national playerr in his brother as well.
At the same time Venus and Serena garnered national pr.

On 72 to 73 rd street off jeffrey boulevard.
Like within three to four blocks of each other.
It just so happens tennisbis mad elitist and resources to play tennis need to plentiful. From courts to a pool of talent to compete with...that given the erosion of the us scholastic system on purpose.

the idea of a large contingent of black players was systemically wiped put.

Where imo.....from sheer racism.
The black male black players in just the Chicago area alone.

Could and should have been the last American resistance in tennis.

Yet racism and lack of general resources. kept all of us from making it.

Except the coach of current women's player from the chicago area.
Who was the son of a teacher jn mgh school and my main rival in group lesson or programs.
So the talent was there.

The issue was no resources or attention.
To create resources for that pool of talent

You can factor in logistics or location too.
As real talk...
Why would someone believe the best male talent pool in tennis.
was in cold ass chicago on first glance.

Yet racism and lack of resources, I feel really eliminated.
an entire last pool and hurrah for men's atp level players.
Who were black and from chicago especially.
