Leonard was largely inactive after 1982. Leonard from 1979-82 is, IMO, one of the best fighters we’ve ever seen on film. I’m not too sure about him after that. He fought at 154 (Kevin Howard) around the same time the Duran/Hearns/McCallum thing was going on and he did not look good at all. He would had to have fought better than that if he fought McCallum.

Mike wasnt a big money fight
Leornard hagler hearns etc wanted big money fights.
Mike mccalum was a great fighter but hearns hagler leornard resume cant be questioned

You say “Mike wasn’t a big money fight”. Cool. Now, why doesn’t someone like Floyd Mayweather get that same energy? He fought some dogs, but he also sought out and held out for bigger money fights, which led to him having a label as a ducker and cherry picker. Leonard, Hearns, and Duran ALL went to other weight seeking the bigger money fights AND the challenge of it. But Hagler isn’t questioned about not fighting in another weight class AND not fighting Body Snatcher because as you say, “he wasn’t a big money fight”?
Before anyone comes and think I’m for Floyd, foh with the bs, I’m not here to protect him, he just happens to be an excellent example for this post. Where’s that same energy for Marvelous?

sugar ray might be the only fighter out of the 4 that i cant see a feasible career trajectory where they should have fought each other
Leonard turned into a cherry-picker after he retired. He had fought Benitez, Duran 2x, Kalule, and Hearns all inside a 2 year period, which is historically great competition, and after that, he was less active and more selective. The Hagler fight was a big calculated risk, he saw Hagler declining, but Leonard himself was a smaller guy and not an active fighter, so that's fine. But Lalonde going down a full weight class? Hearns was viewed by a lot as damaged goods when they had a rematch. Duran 3 was a huge money (and awful) fight. Duran was brilliant against Barkley, but old. Much higher financial reward (and big event) to fight Hearns and Duran than guys like McCallum, Nunn, or Kalambay.
But basically all fighters play the reward/risk game to some extent. Even Sugar Ray Robinson priced himself out of a Charley Burley fight, and Burley said he would have done the same thing if the roles were reversed.
