Allow me to draw a parallel between the American police and Hong Kong police. White cops routinely shoot black youth and appear to have some sort of sick, twisted free pass to do so. The mindset behind these officers is, we are a brotherhood under constant attack by these bad people and we will use whatever force necessary to put them down to 'protect' our own. Stand your ground law only works with whites.
Hong Kong police, however, haven't fired a single gun shot (smoke grenades have been fired but they don't kill people), and have only resorted to the lowest levels of violence (wrist control, pepper spray, carrying them off the scene, occasional baton use when protesters use their own weapons) in order to suppress violent protesters. The mentality behind Hong Kong police is, these people are a part of our family, and we should maintain peace and order and let them express their opinion until they threaten our safety, in which case we use NON-LETHAL cord suppression to maintain control. Cops are getting their heads split open and a couple have had shields and batons taken, but no one's died. No one's ever been shot. The worst injury was like, a cut to the head.
What does this have to do with the righteous people in Ferguson? It is the fundamental way in which the people you have appointed to protect you, are treating you. It is unjust, unfair and highly intolerable. I might not be able to do anything sitting behind this chair here in Hong Kong, but there are many Chinese people out here including myself, that support your struggle. Michael Brown might not have been the best kid in the world but nobody is perfect, and nobody deserves death.
To everyone with fam out there or if you're thinking of joining the protests, I salute you all. My heart bleeds for the unnecessary deaths of young black folk.
P.S. I just saw the interview with Darren Wilson, and he said he'd do the exact same thing if it was a white kid. We all know that's a bunch of horseshyt.
