Not ever losing in the Finals is overrated to a certain point.
Making it to the finals>>>>losing before U get there. I have no problem with Jordan going 6 for 6 cuzz he 3peated twice but the Duncan never losing in the finals hype is
i agree to an extent the never losing thing.. however
the thing Jordan and the bulls did that separates him from every single nba player/team in regards to the finals is the fact that once he reached the highest point of his profession, nobody defeated him.
what i mean by this is, nobody knocked him off the top of the mountain after his first championship. he retired in 93 after 2 successful title defenses, came back and won in 96 and 3peated again (the 15 games he played in 95 surely do not count as him being in championship form)
every other player has either been defeated in the finals OR defeated in their attempt to defend their title
shaq, kobe and the lakers in 03 (didnt defend and spurs won that year)
Bird in 85 and 87 failed title defenses
Magic/kareem in 81, 83, 86
lebron with 2 L's
wilt in 67, 73
duncan/spurs in 04,06,08
etc etc etc. there are players that can say "i beat (insert player) in the finals" or "our team defeated the (insert team) in the finals")
nobody can say they ended the bulls from defending their title, and nobody ever beat jordan in the game's biggest stage.
kobe/magic/wilt/russell/bird/duncan/ all the all time greats either took finals losses or failed at defending their title. only the g.o.a.t can stake that claim
edit- and that goes for ANY sport. football, baseball, nhl, soccer, etc
