Miguel Cotto returned Saturday with a demolition job on Delvin Rodriguez. He looked great under the tutelage of Freddie Roach, which pique the interest of observers in a big fight for Cotto in 2014.

One fight that was mentioned as a possibility for Cotto, according to BoxingScene.com's David Greisman, is a match with middleweight champion Sergio Martinez.

At Monday's media brunch to promoter Tim Bradley-Juan Manuel Marquez, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum informed BoxingScene.com that a potential Martinez-Cotto bout could take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. -- the home of the New York Jets and New York Giants."That's where we would want to do it. At MetLife Stadium, it would be big for 30 or 40,000 people" Arum told BoxingScene.com. "On the Saturday before the Sunday of the Puerto Rican (Day) Parade. We're going to sit with Miguel and talk to him about future fights" Arum added. "Miguel is coming in to Vegas for the Marquez-Bradley fight."

The Saturday before the Sunday of the Puerto Rican Day Parade would place a proposed Martinez-Cotto fight on June 7, 2014. Cotto is no stranger to fighting on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade in the New York area. He's done it fives times, including bouts against Zab Judah, Paulie Malignaggi and Joshua Clottey. Arum said that Top Rank president Todd duBoef's relationship with Giants chairman and executive vice president Steve Tisch would make a deal for the fight at MetLife Stadium easy to make."Todd duBuoef is very, very close with Steve Tisch" Arum said. "They're very close friends."

Interesting how he's looking at Martinez over Canelo. Taking a different route with the rest of his career.

Arum said they have at least the rights to Cotto's next fight hence why Cotto said if Golden Boy wants a fight with him and Canelo they gotta speak with Todd.

I think this fight makes big bank though on the East Coast with good PPV numbers (500-600K range). The Ricans will flood Metlife.

can he get a fight with Canelo though? seems he's going with Top Rank and that fight seems out of reach if so

I'd rather see him with canelo. Cotto has problems with them taller/longer fighters. And against Sergio he'll end up boxing:snoop:

Interesting to see if Freddie will still try to have Cotto slugging against Sergio.

But you right tho Arum is a cancer to these epic fights, hell probably end up with Sergio:smh:

Why pick one or the other when he could just fight both
True but he needs Canelo first. We need him while he's emotionally damaged and force him into Hatton status:mjpls:

Canelo isn't going anywhere... Martinez might got 1 maybe 2 fights left in him
How is Arum a cancer to epic fights? Explain what you mean

Sergio hasnt been undressed and embarrassed quite yet like Canelo was, so Sergio is a bigger money fight for Cotto, plus Sergio has a expiration date nearing, and why would Cotto run to help GB and Canelo after he was promised a Canelo match and sat on the shelf and kept quiet while GB catapulted Canelo into a Floyd match 6 months to a year early. Cotto doesnt need Canelo one bit, but now that Canelo 0 is gone and he hasn't truly gained a fan based like a fighter like Cotto has. There is little fights that Canelo could have that could garner any interest; this is the perils of being a complete fraud ass hype job.

Let Canelo fight the big boys like GB tried to make Cotto sit back and do refusing decent scraps and such, trying to force him to take the fights nobody wanted all the while the are lining Canelo up with lww and WW's including Mayweather. If Cotto fights Canelo he'll be dictating everything, everything.....

LIke @Black_Jesus stated by choosing this career path Cotto gives himself nothing but options, after he beat the shyt out of Martinez which he will do, he's right back on the Floyd radar, and then maybe a Canelo match if he hasnt taken multiple L's by then. Not to mention Cotto will receive no flack if he loses to Sergio.

Cotto is simply a guy that has all angles covered always.....

Cotto is actually a free agent fighting on a fight to fight basis as stated by Boxing scene recently, he's just playing ball....

He technically is, but he's agreed to work with Top Rank for his next fight.

" For that fight to occur, Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions would have to sit down and talk about it,” Cotto said at the post-fight press conference concerning a Canelo fight. “It’s not closing doors, but we need to talk about it.”

He's been wanting the Martinez fight for the sake of getting the 160 title and being Martinez is contracted by HBO it only makes sense for him to work with Top Rank similar to how Floyd works with Golden Boy.

What does that say about being fulfilled with Top Rank for his next fight, if that was even the case it would be strictly his choice. He is strictly hiding behind Arum and using Arum as a buffer because he knows GB and Canelo needs Cotto badly, or GB can watch Canelo lose again and have his stock completely ruined facing the Lara and Trouts of the world.
