Cotto-Canelo: Arum Eyes Cowboys Stadium To Host
Posted by: Miguel Rivera on 11/20/2014

By Miguel Rivera

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is convinced that the fight between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) will happen on May 2 at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. The veteran promoter believes the venue will pack in 50,000 fans for the contest.

Both fighters were scheduled to see action in December. For different reasons, both withdrew from their scheduled dates. Now most are expecting them to go directly into a mega-match between the two of them.

"Nothing is definite yet, but I think the negotiations with all of the parties are on track. I think the Cowboys Stadium would be the ideal place for a lot of reasons. I think a stadium with a capacity that can be flexible and achieve historical levels is a good place for the main fight is between Cotto and Canelo," Arum told ESPN Deportes. "We have very good experiences there with the two fights with Manny (Pacquiao)."

I dont believe Miguel Cotto is gonna risk taking on Canelo Alvarez in Texas where the stadium would be packed with the #CaneloCartel.

Vegas is the spot

Why not fight at Soldier Field? Plenty of Mexicans and Puerto Ricans in Chicago.

You must live in Chicago breh:heh:

No way any fighter is fighting a fight of this magnitude in Chicago, Illinois. Not that it's NOT a great city, because it is, but it's not a fight city like Vegas/NYC for PRs/San Antonio and Dallas for Mexicans/Los Angeles/Atlantic City

I do live in Chicago. Chicago has been a great spot for boxing dating back to the 40's-50's.
A fight of this magnitude can bring those glory days back to the Chi.

I see Cotto getting pretty much everything he asks for in negotiations including a sizable bump to agree to have the fight at Cowboys Stadium.

The things money will make people do, and I'm not even talking about the venue. The azz whoopin that Canelo is going to give Cotto is going to be legendary.

His come forward style is tailor made for Canelo.

Cotto's not a guy I'd consider a come forward fighter in the sense of being right in front of Canelo all night. Truth be told, this is going to be the 1st true Boxer / Puncher Canelo's ever faced, or at least the level that even a current Cotto is. I'm not naive to think there's no way Canelo can't beat Cotto, but I think the Youth over Age is focused on more than strategically what both bring to the table. I think we've seen enough of Canelo since the Floyd fight to know Cotto can definitely expose those holes, but also can show Canelo power he's not felt....probably ever :lupe:
