so what are the sides?
USA/Israel/Turkey vs everyone else?
No. It was Asad vs his own. Assad’s family were already extremely rough on their citizens when he took power. When the US+ invasion of Iraq he opened the Syrian border which was understandable, them your people.
He also allowed every jihadist that was looking to fight the US into Iraq by traveling through Syria. When Paul Bremer’s dumbass mass booted the Sunni’s from the Iraqi army/police they decided to take it out on the Shia and formed into what would become various groups that would fall under Al-Queda in Iraq. They slaughtered the Shia neighborhoods all day and the Shia retaliated at night, with the US+ stuck in the middle.
Eventually all that shyt sort of calmed down, but in the meantime AQI filtered in and out of Syria to rest, refit, build foundations, start families, etc. when the war in Iraq started slowing down in 09-10 a shyt load of them drifted back into Syria as mild unrest started.
By the time the Arab spring came they were forming into what the world knew as ISIL/ISIS, and took the opportunity to stoke the flames when Assad’s retarded ass started VERY violently cracking down on protesting Sunni citizens. They stood up into a bunch of splinter groups and started to fight Assad’s army. ISIS used the chaos and
ARAB funding to do the shyt they did in an exposed Iraq.
After that, countries from outside started choosing groups to support and/or sponsor barely knowing who was who. When IS was pushed back into Syria the countries just started supporting any group trying to kill IS. Russia’s bytch ass took advantage and not only supported some splinter groups but also Assad’s government. In bytch ass Russian fashion they focused on attacking as many civilians as they could to weaken morale of the splinter groups that were actually beating Assad. once IS was virtually gone most of the bigger countries pulled out and stuck to observing and sponsoring. Russia stayed and continued helping Assad attack civilians over military targets.
Russia had to drawdown because they were getting their shyt pushed while invading Ukraine. Assad had minimal support and was recently recently ousted.
All this other crybaby shyt is coming from keyboard crybabies who likely haven’t had any involvement outside of twitter hashtags and shytty YouTube summary’s. Now all of a sudden they want Assad, his barrel bombs, and his chemical weapons back. It’s best to just take the Syrian people at their word and find peace in them steering their own destiny again. Turkey is probably the most influential right now. Who knows what’s going to happen, but fukk all those Putin and Assad apologists crying and making shyt up when they haven’t sniffed the discomforts of combat in real life. They have no idea what the Syrian people have been through, yet they know what’s best now that it’s trending on twitter again. They’ll never pick up a rifle, fight, and bleed for shyt, but they’ll pontificate on whatever imaginary anti-us strategies gives them a dopamine hit.
Who knows what’s the fukk Israel is up to. If they do decide to push hard nobody is going to be able to stop them aside from Syria banding together again.
