A distributor can be way more disruptive than any publisher. As a publisher you just want your games as many places as possible, as a distributor you pick and choose where to release your products.
And sony wouldn’t come close to owning the majority of anime IP with this deal, its western distribution. Shuiesha and Kodansha still own the vast majority of popular anime so your argument is already fart.
You want Sony to be the basically the sole distributor and partially owner of most anime/manga outside of Japan
This deal also isn't for western distribution, if for ownership completely, they'll just be able to distribute it like they want because... Who's gonna stop them?
