They have R&D cost and sell the consoles at a loss.
As does everybody.
We went from the mid 80 million range on the Xbox 360 to about 58 million on the Xbox One. The way the Xbox Series is looking could be in the 40 million range. At some point the business of selling games on other people's hardware is going to be more lucrative to them than selling games on their hardware. Activision Blizzard basically doubled their revenue and that company's games mostly exist multi-platform.
Nope do some math. Even at 40 million consoles sold they’d still have to make like 4 billion in revenue off game sales on other platforms just to make up their console revenue.

Y’all just gotta stop fighting the console wars. “Consoles sold” tells you nothing.

Xbox reported their best month Ever in terms of active users and consoles this past quarter.

Those are the metrics that count.

The math says last quarter they doubled their revenue with the addition of a multiplatform company. The math says their hardware sales are down 30% yoy. Last year was also a down year. It doesn't really matter if all your users are engaged if you can't grow the hardware install base your revenue generated from them will stagnate. As hardware sales continue to decline it won't just stagnate it too will decline.

Consoles sold tells you nothing? Somehow if the position was reversed I doubt you'd still be saying that. We can all see where this is headed. As they expand into other platforms their success grows overall. It isn't thanks to their own hardware. Xbox is turning into a software division gradually.

The Xbox Series consoles are on track to sell worse than the Xbox One which was a complete disaster for the company. The market has spoken and with them putting their games on other platforms people are fleeing Xbox. How many quarters can hardware sales be down 30% year over year on numbers that were bad before they lost the 30% to begin with before Nadella just pulls the plug?

He doesn't sound like he gives a shyt about Xbox hardware.

that doesn't address anything that I said

Again. The math says they are making more money than ever AND they also have more console engagement than ever before.

They’ve proven a multifaceted approach works for them.

Everything else you’re talking about is console wars nonsense. :manny:

Let’s do some math.

Even at only 40million consoles sold and a low 5 game attach rate and estimating only $30 per game. That adds up to at least $6billion in revenue they would be throwing out if they stopped xbox hardware.

Literally makes Zero sense to throw that money away no matter how bad you stan’s want them to.

This. M&A is the path they’ll take to fix up the numbers when needed. Same thing we warned about with the Activision purchase.

They’ll see short term success then when that fizzles a bit they’ll purchase another publisher/developer.

This song and dance has been going on for like 6 years now.

Hardware isn't going anywhere, why would Microsoft jump out a market that it's almost impossible to break into hardware wise by any billion or trillion dollar company, and that they are already established in just to do exactly what they can already do with the hardware they currently have...? Aka sale software

Stan's are telling me Microsoft will be abandoning hardware to sell more software! But wait, how does them abandoning hardware make them sell more software :patrice: Exactly, it doesnt.:snoop:

Infact if anything they'll more likely to sell less software abandoning hardware. This ain't the PS2 era and before where you sold a bunch of systems so you can sell a bunch of games and make money or you die as a 1st party.

Its just like I been telling you dudes for years now and y'all keep :mjlol: and trying to spin it. Hardware won't be the main focus when it comes making $ but it'll always have a presence and important role when it comes to developing games and having a familiar test and development environment.

Selling a ton of hardware is a huge plus now more because of digital content and the $$$ money it brings in.

But you can sell a quarter of the hardware as your competitors and as long as you have strong software and features as well as good risk management you are caking and prime for growth.

Spicy Nutella doing what he was pulled in to do, but now on XB time: Getting MS software in more hands.

Shame Spencer was a glorified P4 in a P1 position and dug XB further. There should be better competition.
