It's Marvel, owned by Disney, regardless of who plays it there will be money behind this. :comeon:

And unlike some of the names dropped, MJW has an extensive acting career and is pretty much already physically fit for the role. Also, even if Spawn was shyt, his role in TDK was small and they wasted him in Arrow, it still gives him a namesake for being invested in comic book properties.

Only thing working against him is time since he isn't getting any younger, but at best we can always hope he plays T'Chaka so he can give young T'Challa some wise life lessons and show him what he must aspire to be.

It has to be an actor with a name and some chops. You can't sell the movie with him. What if Panther is in the next Avengers movie? We got:

Downey Jr
ScarJo
Renner
MJW:dahell:

It would be nice if we had more than 5 black actors to choose from. Idris would kill it but he's in Thor. Chiwetel is on fire right now so he'd be my pick.

To the Marvel universe, if he can get those dudes to call him.

Michael K. Williams, the superb actor who is best known for his role as Omar, a murderous robber of drug dealers, on HBO's The Wire, is campaigning to play comic book characterBlack Panther if Marvel ever makes a movie based on the character (Stan Lee says they are).

Speaking with Cinemablend, Williams said that he hasn't been contacted to be in a Marvel movie yet, but he definitely hopes that will change, and if there is a role he wants, it's ""Black Panther. Yeah, definitely."

As for what he'd bring to the role of Black Panther, or T'Challa, the king of Wakanda, a fictional African nation rich in the fictional element "vibranium," Williams said:

"I would definitely bring that quintessential New York City edge. You know, just a little bit of that grit."

The Marvel universe could definitely use a little bit of that.

Williams is set to play infamous drug kingpin "Freeway" Ricky Ross in the upcoming Jeremy Renner movie Kill the Messenger, which comes out Oct. 10. In 2012, it was reported that he was going to play Ol' Dirty b*stard in the biopic Dirty White Boy, but that movie appears to be stuck in development hell.

He's currently starring in Gap's "dress normal" ad campaign, aka the ad campaign with the worst tagline ever.

and that's EXACTLY why he won't be the role.

People were making jokes when RDJ was announced as Tony Stark. Most people only knew him at the time for his stint of drug/alcohol abuse. Chris Hemsworth played in an Australian soap and his biggest movie role was a five minute part in Star Trek before getting the role of Thor. Chris Pratt biggest clame to fame was being on Parks & Recreation. One can argue about his acting skills but a big name actor hasn't been a requirement for Marvel Studios at all.

Hopefully we get an lesser known black actor for the role if the movie happens. Would be great exposure for dude.

Aldis Hodge is perfect for the role. He's one of those lesser known talented actors who happens to be a fan of the comics. It helps that he's young, got chops and is superbly fit.

Aldis Hodge for Black Panther
I like this choice. Think he has the acting ability, look, and can pull off the accent if they go that route. Don't know how he'd do with the physicality of the role, but I'd like to see someone along these lines get a shot, as opposed to the same names folks keep throwing out. Plus all them nikkas are to old for the role anyway.
