after hurtlocker it's not like the name Jeremy Renner commanded anything it just got him out there staring in bourne/ Henzel and gretel which did before that his claim to fame was starring in pinks video "trouble"

Besides The Hurt Locker getting as much attention as it got that year, he did (and stole the spotlight in) The Town which got critical acclaim and had box office success. He was already in the process of transitioning into a known name with Mission Impossible and Bourne in production around the same time as Thor. Plus he was just the dude with the crossbow in Thor. His role in The Avengers didn't get him that American Hustle role, imo

I could have made a case for Chris Evans since he had a lengthy resume before Cap (including a prominent role in a previous, trash, comic franchise), but he's legitimately known for Captain America. I just don't think Hawkeye made Renner like Thor made Hemsworth. I agree with your basic point about not needing a big name to play Black Panther, though.

It's Marvel, owned by Disney, regardless of who plays it there will be money behind this.

And unlike some of the names dropped, MJW has an extensive acting career and is pretty much already physically fit for the role. Also, even if Spawn was shyt, his role in TDK was small and they wasted him in Arrow, it still gives him a namesake for being invested in comic book properties.

Only thing working against him is time since he isn't getting any younger, but at best we can always hope he plays T'Chaka so he can give young T'Challa some wise life lessons and show him what he must aspire to be.
