First Coachella was 1999. So it was nowhere as big as it is today while Michael Jackson was alive.

It’s not much of a debate. Prince played all his own instruments. Anything Michael could do, Prince could do, but Michael couldn’t do everything Prince could do. End of discussion.

As far as playing musical instruments Prince got that. Never seen MJ even try to play an instrument. Prince could dance yes but on the level of MJ? No. But I think the biggest thing MJ has over Prince is his discography. Be clear - MJ has HUGE hits in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000's. IMO, that's what puts him over Prince.
