If I'm Pat, I wouldn't trade Butler and rather let him walk by season end rather than trade him to some contending team and help them win...if he doesn't want to play, just sit and dock him like the Sixers did Ben Simmons.

Miami has nothing to lose by sitting still; Jimmy does because he's not getting any younger, and one of the preferred destinations could win the chip this year, although I doubt it but that's the hypothetical scenario on how it's Jimmy who loses if the Heat don't trade him.

They gotta treat Jimmy just like how Portland treated Dame but the upside here is that Miami wins by letting him walk away at the season as they'll still have cap space rather than taking on a bad contract such as a Bradley Beal and fukkin up their cap space for next season onwards.

Miami has no incentive to trade him. They'll win either way, but the smart thing to do is stand pat and let him walk in free agency.

Partly Pat's fault and Partly Jimmy's fault. But the results are the RESULTS. Usually, when healthy, Jimmy has taken Miami to 3 Eastern Conference Finals matchups, and to 2 NBA Finals in the 5yrs he's been in Miami. You would think, in a conference that has bought LBJ goodwill for making it to multiple finals, that this goodwill would also be afforded to Butler as well in the eyes of the media and in the eyes of users. JIMMY has been the driving force behind carrying Miami further than they've should've gone. This is sustained and consistent post season success save for 2021. Statistically, he's broken heat post season records. He's done too much for his recent outburst to overshadow who Jimmy is/has been for Miami in the post-LBJ/Wade era. Sorry....:manny:

If it gets too bad for Jimmy he can opt in and have "back strain". Its in there best interest to seperate sooner rather than later.

Walk where exactly considering the only team that will have cap space is the Nets, who will have no interest in him whatsoever?

It was the perfect storm last offseason with both Philly and the Clippers benefitting from the PG FA signing and that just isn't going to happen that often especially with contending teams.

It won't be the Heat's problem anymore. Brooklyn might be interested if it means they could make a trip to the playoffs, but eh. The Heat don't win by helping him get onto a contender, that's why Pat has firmly made it clear they're not trading him.

Basically, they'll take their chances.

Miami isn't concerned if Jimmy opt-in and if anything that'd be ideal if he were to stay because it'll still be less money than they'd pay if he were extended or offered a new contract.

Knowing Jimmy, and since he's made it clear he doesn't want to stay in Miami anymore, he probably wouldn't opt in out of spite and would still take his chances on the market; it's hard to say if he wants his money, play on a contender, or both.

I wouldn't be surprised if he signed with a noncontender in the off-season; I feel like, at this point, it's about who's going to pay him rather than winning a title.

If they get assets in return, yes they do.

I also wouldn’t mention anything about what Riley says considering he’s the exact reason why the roster is in the shape it’s in now.
