Miami Heat legend Alonzo Mourning, through his AM Affordable Housing (AM) and Housing Trust Group (HTG) has closed on the financing for Courtside Family Apartments: a new and affordable residential development in Miami's historic Overtown neighborhood.

The 84-unit affordable housing development is the first of a three-phased master planned community that will help revitalize the neighborhood and provide affordable housing for local residents. It will include four live/work lofts on Northwest Fourth Avenue, set-aside at various income levels at or below 60% of the area median income

Construction will start shortly at 1700 NW 4th Avenue in Overtown. Aside from adding more housing options for residents, the development will create approximately 150 jobs during the 14-month construction phase with another approximate 35 permanent jobs when it officially opens its doors. Phase II and III are set to follow soon after.

Development costs are estimated to be at $22.8 million, and costs are being covered by a number of sources.

Aside from affordability, the planned units will also incorporate green design and eco-friendly features such as low-flow plumbing fixtures, low-VOC paint Energy Star qualified appliances and energy efficient HVAC systems.

The master-planned community aims to be pedestrian friendly, offering better access to government services, small business opportunities, and neighborhood-oriented "mom and pop" shopping.

Once completed, residents can look forward to a multi-purpose community room complete with gaming tables, a theater room, computer lab, fitness center, and a secure outdoor area with basketball courts, picnic areas and lush gardens.

“I’m extremely pleased that all our hard work has finally paid off,” said Mourning in a press release. “Since we were first awarded the project in 2008, we have had to overcome many obstacles to get to this point, but we persevered and ultimately succeed for this community. Our teamwork, dedication, high energy and hard work mirror the same qualities it takes to build a champion.”

Chris Bosh Says He’s Lucky to Be Alive

Basketball isn’t a life-or-death situation at the end of the day, but it almost was for Miami Heat star Chris Bosh. The big man revealed he’s “lucky to be alive” after playing through symptoms that turned out to be the result of blood clots in his lungs that ultimately sidelined him for the rest of the season.

Bosh appeared on Dan Le Batard’s ESPN radio show yesterday to talk about the way his season ended after the All-Star Game and his preparations for returning next year.

Bosh says he first felt the symptoms during a February 1 game against Boston.

“In Boston, we actually won that game, but I couldn’t breathe,” he said. “I was like, ‘Man, I can’t breathe. Something’s wrong with me. I can’t breathe.’ You try to take a deep breath, and I couldn’t do that.”

Despite that, Bosh didn’t take his problems to the Heat’s training staff and continued to play through pain in his back and sides and would continue to practice and play for two more weeks.

“I know, I’ll never do it again,” Bosh said. “It sounds crazy, doesn’t it? I wish I could go back and tell myself not to do those things, but I’m lucky to be alive. I am. I took that as a lesson to stop trying to be a tough guy all the time. That’s kinda how we’re trained, to just suck it up and throw some dirt on it and get back out there."

Indeed, the problems could have led to an early death for the 30-year-old if he had continued to play, but they were caught in time for Bosh to make a full recovery — just not in time to save this season. However, Bosh affirmed he’ll be back full force next season.

we let the east burn by themselves and they still all garbage. Cavs arent as good as people thought they be.
Hawks were the greatests overachievers of all time.
Bulls are possibly the greatest underacheivers
the rest of the teams are meh.

Dont count on the East being as bad next year

  1. Cavs will be good but Love is probably gone.
  2. Bulls should remain solid if D-Rose os healthy. Biggest IF in the NBA the last decade.
  3. Hawks will remain good winning 50+ games if they keep their core (Milsap is FA)
  4. Washington should remain where they are
  5. Orlando may improve vastly with a lottery pick and Thibs as coach (if they get him)
  6. Bucks should improve with Parker back and their young core jelling
  7. The Knicks can only get better but doubt they make the playoffs

The MAIN team i see being worst next year is the Raptors, Nets and Hornets.

Miami keeps their pick if it falls in the top 10.

:patrice: why would you want Mudiay over Russell? They traded 2 #1s for Dragic. Russell gives you what you need, shooting, scoring, and can play the 2
