The whole scenario is ridiculous, though. You could argue that if this happened it would escalate beyond just regular gang warfare. And no, I don't think it's as easy for the Cartels to get access to Drones and Nukes as it is for KGB.

They all (Russians, Italians, Columbians, Mexicans) work together.
This scenario is straight GTA/ Sons of Anarchy fantasy. If a war would happen the only winners would be law enforcement agencies across the globe.

In real life all these criminal organizations work together and respect each other.(Italian Cosa Nostra were advisors and helped organize both the Russians and the Columbians in the 80s) Why? Because any conflict between them would be mutually assured distruction. Even if one of them could win(and they couldn't), they would lose billions of dollars, get huge LE heat and ultimately be destroyed.

While internal disputes may happen(i.e. Italians vs Italians), you'll never see violence between different ethnic Mafias. Organized crime is one of the most globalized "industries" on the planet. All these organizations rely on each other for drugs, guns, money laundering services etc.

I thought that this was the Russian Mafia that was going to war here. And you could "argue" that outright anything would happen if you have a crazy enough imagination. Doesn't mean that it'd ever happen or even be likely to happen. People ITT giving all sorts of James Bond movie-esque super-villain advantages to the Russian Mafia.

In all seriousness I don't know how could anyone willingly go against a force that claimed 100K lives in a 7 year span with almost impunity.

Border States-> Cartels

Mexico and central America (obviously)-> Cartels.

The Mafia seems to 'control' area's with the highest GDP and influence on the world. The Cartels control places like Mexico and Arizona.
