counter point: letting Jones walk with no plan in mind is telling the locker room that this season is a waste of time before ever stepping foot on the field.
That's how they feel now so what was gained by paying him?
The line quit on him after the pick 6. The team will quit on the season.
That's what the non exclusive franchise tag was for. He gets 32 million for this season and if you see he's not the guy then you let him walk. No one else was going to pay him the 40 his agent was asking for.
If the QB on your roster isn't sniffing the top tier or you don't have the pieces on offense to carry him then you're in the market for a new QB. Paying a guy based on "well who else is out there" reasoning is never smart. You get a bridge, franchise your current QB, and position yourself to draft one. You don't turn a guy into a star because you pay him like one. Now you're on the hook for $82 million while faced with the realization that you paid a bum.
The jury is still out on Daboll. Winning coach of the year was a joke when they went 3-6-1 to finish the season.
