My hackles raise INSTANTLY.
When I was 18, I had a 4.1 gpa and a full ride to 5 schools. And I worked PT at a pet store.

What were these kids doing for four years in high school when they were supposed to be planning for the next phase of their lives? Do you know how hard I was working in high school?! I used to have to apply for scholarships damn near daily during my junior and senior year. Anything less than a B would have had you losing teeth.

So now that you spent the last 4 years from the time you were 14-18 doing nothing but eating yo mama’s groceries…you want ANOTHER four years to do what?!

If you are working and stacking money and respectful then cool.
But if mom and dad are giving themselves heart attacks going in on their jobs, while you at home doing nothing or pushing your babies off on them…you gots to go!

I had to talk with a parent the other day who keeps giving their “child”…grow ass adult…money to pay his rent. She works at the post office. Where does HE work? And there’s SO MANY JOBS OUT THERE NOW!

I dunno even know. One girl told me she was mad at her mom for not wanting to watch her baby.Um…your mom is a clinical psychologist and told you not to get pregnant in the first place.
It’s too much for me to understand.

Quit with the motherfukking respectability politics and thinly veiled “black people are lazy” “millennials entitled” rhetoric. This shyt is simply the result of a systemic problem that has shut black people out of the economy and reduced our total wealth to zero.

Coming from an actual black man with a college degree - these jobs aren’t fukking hiring. I put in hundreds of applications. Go fukk your self, this system is rigged.

No one gives a fukk about your “I had a 4.1 gpa and worked two jobs” having ass. You should have the fukking integrity to actually point out how this system is unequal and there are MASSIVE barriers in place for black people to actually succeed and build wealth. Argue with the statistics.

But the people I'm speaking on don't do any of this and are still "behind".

That is the issue.

A lot of debt is relative.

I'm $25k in debt and it hurts just as much as someone with $100k in debt.

Both of us are in the hole, struggling to pay it while our landlord shrugs and raise the rent $100-$500 higher.

EDIT: Wanted to add, no one helped me with trying to figure out college and I made sure to make a small enough mistake that I could at least kind of pay for. But I digress.

Understand, folks aren't dumb.

They look outside and realize:

They may never own a house.

They will never see social security (which takes plenty of money out of your check).

They see their friends flying high, then crashing and burning from one medical emergency.

They watched their parents lose everything from the 08 financial crisis.

They watched folks come OUT OF retirement because their pensions/retirement wasn't enough.

Corporations crush their family members with terrible working conditions.

I could go on. Why would folks want to willing go out and slave away?

For what purpose? What is the endgame? Ask these kids these questions, you'll get the same answers I did.

They don't see the point when looking out at the world today.

I don't blame them either.

Hmmm, i get what you're saying, i.e. being independent and ambitiously driven since a young age, making something of yourself, being an accomplished super star in life,. et cetera, v.v.



But by you using your experiences/achievements/accolades as a barometer of success and comparing it to your contemporaries/younger generations isn't very realistic. You are not the common gene in this societal helix; you're a high value woman, and that's great and all...

And I'm sure there are a ton of women like you out there but everyone's upbringing and circumstances, coddled or not, regardless of social standing, but at the end of the rolling credits...


...some people just never get that break in life or have the mental acuity/motivational propensity to seek out great opportunities for themselves.

That’s pretty loaded assumption IMO. Cultures where kids are staying home for extended periods of time are also contributing HEAVILY to those households. Or working on plans that will elevate their entire families. And their culture dictates the amount of control these families have in these children’s lives. If you staying with your parents, a LOT of them are virgins until marriage, and deferring to their parents in nearly every aspect of their lives.

Like I have some Ghanaian undergrads in my classes. And one was saying how she stayed with her parents but also worked crazy hours at night cleaning floors to send money back home to extended family back in Ghana.

That’s a very different dynamic than the 18 year old high schoolers I worked with, who have $800 cell phones, shytty grades, talking shyt to friends on PSN all day…or expecting Big Mama to care for their OOW babies so they can still post thirst traps from a dirty bathroom.

Some of these kids literally don’t want to do ANYTHING and wanna curse you out for even suggesting they become gainfully employed. But they also failing classes in school.
Like I asked one of em “you got ONE damn job, and you failing that!” But mama working overtime shifts as CNA and daddy got paint on his face from painting some rich fukkers house, while some of these kids online talking to you and me right now bragging about what they got on internet somebody else is paying for.

If the child is industrious, I don’t see an issue. But the rest of these jokers are being too coddled. I think some poor parents feel bad for not having and so they try to give their kids EVERYTHING, so many kids grow up resenting having to work for ANYTHING.
