Melo is ALL ISO.
The true superstars in this league move the ball around. That "He has no teammates" excuse can only go so far. That dude literally eats the ball on the wings 90% of the time only to force a bad shot or pass it right at the last second when there is no time for things to develop.
Melo is not a superstar.
So what does Lebron do? He has the ball for 90% of the shot clock, while his teammates stand around. They never even move off their spots. That's ISO ball. Chris Paul dribbles in-and-out for ever and catches Blake or Deandre on the lob. That's ISO ball. Curry dribble-dribbles then pulls up from half court - ISO ball. Durant - ISO. He just triple threats for a shorter period of time than Melo. Harden. The whole penetrate-kick offense is ISO ball. Franchise got killed for playing like that. Post-ups even though no longer used in NBA is ISO. Screen-rolls are isolation-designed plays. The last team I saw that truly didn't play ISO was the ECF Champ Nets. They were all Princeton cuts. When was the last time you saw a motion offense in profession ball? Moving the ball around doesn't necessarily mean it's not ISO.
Dirk catch and held-jab steps, pump fakes...a less effective triple threat. Hell, they went to finals playing all 1-on-1. Melo uses the triple threat. Watch him use it when his teammates are cutting vs moving around. He also played off the ball when he had a PG - Dre Miller, Chauncey, Kidd.
There's nothing wrong with ISO ball. There's no point in having a premier player if you can't use him. That's what they're there for. It's Hero Ball that you should worry about.
