Its kind of bad if the 40% also has to cover producers, engineering, marketing, etc.


BUT

To be fair.


ANY DEAL that is upfront offering you 50% ownership of your Masters (provided thats whats in the paperwork) PLUS $50k and a $10k signing bonus is a deal that should be seriously considered if you are a brand new artist. Even if the label is taking 60% and your 40% has to cover alot of the musical overhead, its almost like investing in yourself when the Masters ownership comes into play.


Say she delivered 4 albums and, best case scenario she has a Nicki Minaj type run. Nicki has had 3 albums debut at number 2 and 2 debut at number 1. She also has sold 30 Million singles to date. So if Megan has that type of run her Masters would have high value and she’d stand to make more off of her catalogue on the backend.
