No choice but to recall Kshama Sawant

Here is why.

Sawant disputes the third court-approved recall charge, concerning Sawant’s leadership role in a protest at Mayor Jenny Durkan’s home. That address is protected in a state confidentiality program. Sawant’s weak retort is that she didn’t “lead” marchers to the house and that she has never known Durkan’s address.

This denial rings hollow. During Sawant’s onstage speech in front of Durkan’s house, she reportedly spoke critically of the “Richie Rich” neighborhood. Shortly afterward, Sawant’s council Twitter account retweeted notes of gratitude “for speaking @MayorJenny’s rich house,” as one put it. Curiously, those notes appear to have vanished from Sawant’s timeline.

She is not going to survive this. Good riddance. An absolute opportunist, and uses social justice to push her socialist agenda. And that is not hyperbolic, whatsoever. The ballot is fukking hillarious

King County Elections

Councilmember Kshama Sawant, City of Seattle Council District No. 3, Response to the Recall Charges

Vote ‘NO' on the right-wing recall. The charges against Kshama Sawant are dishonest, and the courts haven’t found her guilty of anything.

Kshama, an immigrant woman of color, is being attacked for participating in peaceful Black Lives Matter protests. This recall is part of the racist right-wing backlash attempting to criminalize protest nationally.

Big business and the right wing want to remove Kshama because she’s such an effective fighter for working people. Rather than appeasing the establishment, Kshama has used her 8 years in office to win historic victories like the $15 minimum wage and Amazon Tax to fund housing. Rather than taking home the $140,000 Councilmembers pay themselves, Kshama lives on an average worker's wage and donates the majority of her salary to social justice movements.
Literally doesn't address the charges :dwillhuh:
Just say you don’t like her cause you’re a staunch capitalist bruh.

That recall sounds like bullshyt from I read. They want to recall her because they with no evidence say she supposedly dropped the mayor’s address and and led protestors to her house house ? So?

Even if she did it that makes me like her more. I wonder who’s backing the recall.

Oh, the recall is supported by right wing dirtbags. The recall itself however has merit and she will likely lose because even in this super left district, people are tired of her antics, and she admitted to using city funds for her own campaigning. She did that.

Why would the the OP up this embarrassing thread?

Some of those early takes are the most god awful cringey shyt I ever read here geez
Well, some of us don't hide when we say wrong things or project something that wasn't as damaging as we predicted from eight years ago. My thoughts on the $15 min were erroneous outside of its impact on grocery, restaraunts, and non profits. They did suffer. The rest were fine. I hope over an 8 year period you're not scared to bring up old discussions because they might make you look bad or because they're "cringey takes"

I upped it because I was right about Sawant. We'll see if she survives the recall. If she does, hey, the people have spoken. If not, hey, the people have spoken.

Hadn't the people already "spoken" when she won reelection in 2015 and 2019? And both times by larger margins than in her initial election. I've read the charges and since all three are in regards to her conduct rather than her positions or issues, I'm not sure why you view it as a referendum on her politics. The recall supporters haven't made it that.

And your thoughts on $15 were erroneous in terms of grocery, restaurants, and non-profits too. Even if you think it had a net negative impact on those sectors (which is still up for debate), it clearly wasn't the level of disaster you predicted for any of them.

Ok. I don’t follow the story or know much but the stuff I gathered real quick including the Seattle paper op-ed indicated that it was about an unsubstantiated claim that she gave out the mayor’s address to protestors.

What were you right about? It seems initially your issue was she’s a socialist and a $15 minimum wage was going to cripple Seattle. That didn’t happen.

You upped it about there being a recall? Ok. I don’t see how that validates anything you said earlier.

Since winning her third council election in 2019, Sawant has repeatedly abused her authority with performative chicanery, shrugging at City Hall norms and the needs of a district stretching from Montlake to the Central District to Little Saigon. Residents and business owners complain she ignores their pleas for better city services, as described in a Nov. 23 public letter from 70 Black, Asian and Jewish leaders.

As the recall ballot states, Sawant spent public money on personal political causes, then used her City Hall keys to bring in hundreds of people for a protest speech in violation of a pandemic closure. She admits both acts. The Washington State Supreme Court unanimously ruled each is “factually and legally sufficient to support recall,” meeting the high threshold set in the state Constitution. Voters deserve this power to turn out an elected official who repeatedly abuses authority, rather than sitting helplessly for the remainder of a term. It’s time to use it.
“
People are tired of her, and she is actively breaking rules using public money for her movement. That said, if you look at my 2015 replies

When I made this thread, yes. But her attention seeking manor is really off putting.

I didn't really make a judgement on rent control when i called it her baby. Rental prices are insane here I am the FIRST to complain.

And they can and will find a way to pay $15

Not hire as many people or raise prices and rates.
I was already talking about how business would solve $15 and that did happen. And i shared why i dont like Sawant. Not liking someone is not enough to recall an elected official, but her actions were enough since 2019 to get to today.

To be clear, my thoughts on $15 were formed by my actual conversations and relationships with hundreds of seattle business owners, not theory from other states and countries or places i dont live. My thoughts on it evolving, today, are as well, which is why i dont hide from the fact that my doom and gloom was overstated. There was still impact but it was on a smaller scale than business owners were worried about, other than the industries i mentioned.

she might survive :manny: we’ll find out tonight or tomorrow morning.

Sawant has pulled ahead but there are enough ballots under review to change it. Looks like she won despite some circumstances that looked sketchy (contribution caps being lifted for the recall sawant heads mainly).

Seems like she’s good but confirmation may take til Tuesday.

Got to hand it to her, she’s clearly done well enough at retail politics that she has a core that will support her and help fend off big money challenges.
its really something. Grassroots is off the charts. Current tally as of last night:

I just hate how it was painted by her grassroots campaign that 'vote no or your are a trump supporting right wing racist'. Tense afternoon waiting for the results.
