No choice but to recall Kshama Sawant

Here is why.

Sawant disputes the third court-approved recall charge, concerning Sawant’s leadership role in a protest at Mayor Jenny Durkan’s home. That address is protected in a state confidentiality program. Sawant’s weak retort is that she didn’t “lead” marchers to the house and that she has never known Durkan’s address.

This denial rings hollow. During Sawant’s onstage speech in front of Durkan’s house, she reportedly spoke critically of the “Richie Rich” neighborhood. Shortly afterward, Sawant’s council Twitter account retweeted notes of gratitude “for speaking @MayorJenny’s rich house,” as one put it. Curiously, those notes appear to have vanished from Sawant’s timeline.

She is not going to survive this. Good riddance. An absolute opportunist, and uses social justice to push her socialist agenda. And that is not hyperbolic, whatsoever. The ballot is fukking hillarious

King County Elections

Councilmember Kshama Sawant, City of Seattle Council District No. 3, Response to the Recall Charges

Vote ‘NO' on the right-wing recall. The charges against Kshama Sawant are dishonest, and the courts haven’t found her guilty of anything.

Kshama, an immigrant woman of color, is being attacked for participating in peaceful Black Lives Matter protests. This recall is part of the racist right-wing backlash attempting to criminalize protest nationally.

Big business and the right wing want to remove Kshama because she’s such an effective fighter for working people. Rather than appeasing the establishment, Kshama has used her 8 years in office to win historic victories like the $15 minimum wage and Amazon Tax to fund housing. Rather than taking home the $140,000 Councilmembers pay themselves, Kshama lives on an average worker's wage and donates the majority of her salary to social justice movements.
Literally doesn't address the charges :dwillhuh:

If you want to take it there socialism defies natures survival of the fittest. Does the strongest lion hunt for the weakest so the entire pride can be average?

But we're not in the wilderness of Tibet. We don't eat raw meat. And we've sent monkeys to the moon.

In short, the jungle book analogy doesn't work here. Things don't happen in society without group effort. If we live by anything it's "you're only as strong as your weakest link."

In all seriousness, how is the business situation in the Seattle area? The up? down? the same?
Restaurants, non profits (especially) and grocery had a very material impact from $15. It was very difficult to adjust even as it phased in. Everyone else was relatively fine though.

Core downtown has been crushed by DRUGS. Fiends smoking pills all on the main downtown, right in front of businesses. Third ave is new jack city status.

The rest of industry has been great however. A ton of m&a activity, and the city keeps growing.

So the $15/hr wasn't as detrimental as 1st thought. I'll assume more of those businesses closed down due to covid than min wage hike.

That's not a fair assumption. That caused an additional wave of course but closures were happening in 2019. For context I work directly with small and mid market business in the city.

*Edit - it is fair to say however that for middle market and higher size businesses, they were able to adjust because of their size and ability to trim overhead.

How severe were the decline in living standards and quality of life in Seattle after the $15 dollar minimum wage?

En masse, none to speak of, unless you draw a correlation between $15 and the cost of rents going up, and I don’t draw a material connection between the two because of other housing factors involved. Individuals losing work in food service, grocery, and hospitality might think differently but talking about the city in whole, nothing dramatic.

If living standards and quality of life have gone down i would say high cost of living and housing, and the opiate epidemic in seattle are more of a cause.

That shyt better not pass in seattle...RIP BUSINESS IF SO
You simpleton, theres a HUGE, GIANT pocket of businesses between burger flippers and boeing...your businesses that gross like 100k to 2MM are going to be crippled if this is implemented.

I am VERY connected in the business community in seattle. I know the way the cash flows here. Reconsider your jokey stance.
And only socialist fools are dumb enough to be used like this
I invite you to think about the impact of a major american city going to a $15 minimum wage critically.

This was a truly beautiful demonstration of how a lot of anti-poor business folk claim to be making objective statements about what pro-poor policies will do, but really can't predict jack shyt and are just reflexively trying to protect corporate profits.
