bitcoin dropped after that Skype scare a couple of days ago... may have been fear mongering. With the way lies stick and spread nowadays, it's kinda hard to tell.

This is ignorant. You should educate yourself on what bitcoin is.
Also let me explain what has been going on with bitcoin the last week.
Its the fact that current exchanges dont have the infrastructure for large growth and they don't have smart server admins that know how to handle DDOS attacks. Mixed in with people trying to make a quick buck that dont understand financials systems. Not every one can day trade or do stocks and this is what happens when people get involved that dont understand money. Also what is happening since there server admins suck. Is when bitcoin gets high people DDOS the servers causing panics and idiots who don't invest or understand money panic and sell dropping the price. So the people DDOS buy the coins when the price drop low and make a ton of money when the price recovers there just taking advantage of people that don't understand trading currencies.
