On GP, there's no way that any of these artists would make the top 1,000 (thousand)
  • 3rd Bass
  • Beastie Boys
  • Lords of Brooklyn
  • Blood of Abraham
  • Aesop Rock
  • Action Bronson (though I do like a lot of his stuff)
And only eligible record from Def Jux is The Cold Vein (and I rock with El-P)

We completely omitted The Beastie Boys from the list because we did not want to shove Sean Price and Cormega off. 3rd Bass was an important group not only because of their music because they gave us Nas (sort of) and MF Doom.

The Beastie Boys didnt have a bigger impact than say a Sean Price or more inportant than 3rd Bass?

You should Google the word subjective.

I'm just saying putting a super influential 5/5 mic album in the 90s seems weird, even moreso when they trot out that Cardi B album with a higher ranking. Some things aren't subjective, but then again that's why I hate lists lol.

Also did you guys look at the recent posts from that page. Sounds like it's under new management and they're seeking 18-30yo people to write posts for the page. Super weird given that it used to just be a popular page an old head created to tell hip hop history. Sounds like the original guy sold the page to someone else. Presumably a white dude. Just saying.

You’re mixing up this list with the Complex or Rolling Stone list

Cardi B isn’t on this list. And How would you know a Cardi B album is higher when the rest of the list hasn’t even dropped yet.

Critical Beatdown is a legendary album, but it’s not 1998 anymore. It’s now 2024 and this list was made with consideration for albums that have aged the best, Critical Beatdown has aged pretty good but its not an album that a lot of younger people go back to listen to often. But its still on the list because of its influence.

And an old head never owned Meccapolis it was owned by a young man the entire time. He just seems old because he writes well. A lot of pages who copied Meccapolis’ style has popped up therefore we are rebranding the page in various elements to stay ahead of the curve as well as expanding it from just an Instagram enthusiast page into a business which involves lists like these.

I think making a most influential top 100 would be an interesting exercise, rather than a generic top/best/favorite list.

Cause a lot of influential people in hip hop (nyc hip hop esp), didn't make albums, or their albums didn't really do much in terms of influencing.

So Nicki is on the list ahead of it?

I take it that the og guy still owns it but is just expanding to deal with competition? Good to hear...

Mad low.

But I try not to clown people for their opinions, even when they're wrong, lol. Some albums mean more or less to certain people. Me personally, I would have The Cactus Album and Word...Life ahead of some of these he has here, but it's all subjective.

Lets be fair.....OP only put out the 100-90 so far. Time will tell where his ear is at.

Nicki Minaj is not on the list. She’d be on it if it was a Top 200 though

The OG guy is Lade (he’s not white but he’s not from New York) he still owns the page but he is rebranding it to Sports/Music/Street shyt/Fashion/Film categories of NYC with each weekday dedicated to one category as a way to transition it more into a organized cultural newspaper page as opposed to a Instagram content page. Just tighter branding.

He had the idea to make this list as answer to Apple and Billboard’s Hip Hop lists that many people complained about

Meccapolis has an offshoot page called Die Frsh (the new page is below, the old page got suspended) that’s specifically about fashion. Thats the page that’s moreso the “competition” of No Ideas Original or Relowd Supply as it was first. It’s not competition though. If you create lemonade, other people will make their own lemonade too. Its about consistent growth and evolution to keep seperating yourself which is what we’re focused on moreso than complaining about “competition”
