Arabs came over from the Arabian Peninsula and introduce Islam way back in the 7th and 8th century. Merchants spread the religion all the way to Mali and the Atlantic coast over the centuries. The empires that existed in Chad, Nigeria, all the way to Mali eventually became Muslim empires that were not 'Arab'
What we have today in Sudan are Arabs who are black due to the intermixing of those from the Arabian Peninsula, Nubians, and indigenous groups. They are composed of different nomadic tribes large and small.
This war in Darfur has featured the ethnic cleansing of groups such as the Masalit and Fur peoples by the RSS.
The Sudanese military has lost control of many areas of the country. The Egyptians back them.
