I don't eat McDonalds but that's fukked up. What jobs will 16, 17 year old kids get while in school? America is fukked.

Its crazy , i think the handful of teens i've seen employed are in family businesses. I see a lot more outside selling bottled water but the amount of teenagers i'd overhear on the train etc talking about scam shyt is insane.

There are entire ghost towns throughout the USA where there is nothing for people to do besides work at 4 Dollar Generals in the area...

There are entire towns where there is nothing for people to do besides work in the prison system...

To build human capital takes money...

Money that people don't have and capitalists don't like to invest in...because it eats in their profits...

And damn sure the American government ain't gonna do it because...most people think

"Well if everybody gets new job skills...then who is gonna be the janitors and the car washers..."

There are no new jobs for somebody that works at McDonalds...or a coal miner...or a janitor...or a cashier...

Their jobs will replaced by machines that do it faster and cheaper...

And they ain't gonna have the money or the time to go learn how to make a damn robot...
I live in an economically depressed area and the majority are unemployed or working service industry. Anyone who does have a good job doesn't live here or a yuppie cac transplant. Taking away service jobs in a country with towns just like mine and my hometown (paterson, nj) is going to be devastating. We are watching the death of the american empire. When I get enough money i'm jumping ship. This place is going to be in constant turmoil.

I use to be an anarchist until I saw that it was just a bunch of disorganized, middle class, white kids larping as working class leftists. I prefer this organization The African People's Socialist Party – The best daughters and sons of Africa

Crime rate in this country will be insane in another 10-15 years.

This was eventually going to happen even if they were paying employees 7 dollars.

This was inevitable. Stores have had self service checkout lines for years.

Fight for $15 is merely a convenient scapegoat.

idiot companies should all just refuse to use robots past a certain level. morons are digging their own graves and don't even know it.

I agree with all of the above statements. McDonalds isn't fooling anyone with this excuse. Also @CarbonBraddock is right on the money. These dumb ass companies are digging their own graves. Companies rely on PEOPLE to function, both as workers and customers. Marginalizing lower income workers only means disaster for this country's economy. Unfortunately these companies are global and do not care about domestic welfare, esp in America.

Companies don't require people to function. At least , not those in the bottom. Give it 10 years , and you will see the same thing in the taxi business.
A lot of jobs are going to be replaced by machines and they most likely provide a better service.

Those fast food workers are better off applying to hospitality, school and catering type food based jobs. I work at a middle school cafeteria. Automation will not hit jobs like mine cause you need an human element to see if food is spoiled out of date and you have to prepare meals by recipe size and use utensils by hand.

Fast food workers have been protesting that minimum wage should be bumped up to $15 for a few years. Now look at what McDonald's is doing by installing kiosks because owners are trying to save a few dollars by not hiring employees. In one hand it convenient to consumers but on the other a lot of ppl are going to be losing jobs. Expect more fast food establishments to use the same process.

Look at what online shopping has done to a lot of the traditional brick & mortar stores by putting most of them out of business.
yup others fast food like wendys and burger king will follow this move
