One thing I was taught when I got on my first post-college job, they pulled me aside and told me, "Whatever you say(in front of the CEO's and upper mngmt), even if you know it's not correct, say it with conviction and confidence....because that's what they like to see"

i asked a question about us americans. why are we so STUPID and so easily fooled into believing someone won a debate when there wasnt one. the question wasnt "who has the better policies" or "who will follow thru with said policies"
you said mitt and obeezy are the same(obeezy 2008) i said thats not true. i proved how he explained something in detail and actually DID what he said he would do. now thats one thing as CHIEF he could pull off without repubs approval. other stuff has to go thru everyone else first. so some may get thru and others may not. but thats not the point of this thread. i proved my point. 2008 obeeze had an idea, he then explained how he would get to the end of his idea. no one liked his idea. but yet he explained it. it wasnt a popular idea. but yet he explained it. do you get my point. how on earth are americans dumb enough to let a candidate slide and not give us his own policy breakdown. I didn't watch the debate, but the fundamental rule of debating is to thrash your opponent and his argument. I think everyone is saying Romney did well, not that he is a Rhodes scholar. From what you said, Obama let Romney skate, when Obama should have spent 90 minutes showing Romney doesn't have a clue.

This is America and ever since debates started to be televised they have been about imagery over policy and to point to Obama's 2008 campaign as some example of wonkish policy discussions being given in minute detail is nonsense.
Also the way a challenger campaigns against an incumbent (especially one with the economic climate Obama is presiding over) is to harangue the President with his own record and to promise the voters to do better if elected. The challenger to a sitting President offers ideas but rarely if ever goes into the specifics because these types of elections are not about the new guy but about the last 4 years. That is why Obama has spent so much time trying to paint Romney as an elitist mosnter who wants to eat babies, murder the elderly and enslave the poor.
That is just the way US politics works and it won't be changing anytime soon just because The Chosen One shyt the bed in his first debate with the Mormon Robot.

i ask the same questions, who are they polling? the people behind obama, sitting back yawning at all this saying to themselves, just point me in the direction of them polls so i can vote for obeezy. this is not some street corner debate where the objective is to make the other guy look bad. this is politics where you are marketing a message to sway voters. obama already has blacks, mexicans, gays, and liberal whites in his back pocket. all he has to do is cling on to the few on the fence whites who decided to vote for him the first time cause they wanted to show they black friends they were not racist.

Personally, I don't agree with the OP. From what I can see, Mitt won in style/substance AND Facts by comparison. I think he had a well manicured response for any rebuttle Obama would have brought up.
As much as some like to pretend, Mitt clearly outlined points of his plan on the economy to health care and Obama had numerous opportunities counter his points and to state why he disagreed with him in more ways than one. I think that he just didn't because he couldn't. It's as simple as that. It's something I think some are afraid to just admit.
I think that during next debate Obama will come out swinging to some extent, so it should get interesting. But I honestly do believe that Romney has reshaped his image in a matter of hours.
