More proof that that socialism (or incorporating many socialistic elements into a society/economy) doesn't work. Gay marriage isn't even that big of an issue. The main issue is the socialist government getting involved in people's personal lives. Next they're going to raise the income tax again again there will be more intense and violent protests ala London 2010.

The 2nd French Revolution is only a matter of time. Really hope my rich uncle in Monaco will be safe.

Why is western civilization accelerating their own demise with stuff like this?

Surely Christian Europe should know this is an abomination to God?

Not a big fan of religion but if God really did exist I doubt he would give a shyt.

Don't worry. You'll be able to marry in the us soon enough. Obama and Hollywood will make sure of that.

I think you might be a closet homo to be honest. Your sustained weekly profane polemics against gay marriage when you know it's inevitable seems a bit bizarre. What do you care for? Gay people are going to get married and your life won't change one iota.

Btw, over 60% French people support gay marriage. http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/63-of-french-favor-gay-marriage-poll/

:smh:@you being in France around beautiful history, art, women, nature and tourists attractions and typing angry screeds about gay marriage on the coli. Log off.

I've never understood how this effects people who aren't gay.

you think this is going to stop gays from gaining the right to marriage? Its inevitable. These folks are wasting their time.

Law already passed anyway, they're just "showing" that they're against it, which everyone already knew. Good showing for the extreme-right too :beli:

Oh my God! You've outed me! Because i decided to post about the massive protest that i just happened to get caught up in yesterday now makes me a closet homo! Thanks for outing me! I'm glad that is out of the way....:beli:

And yes, I've been witnessing a lot of the beautiful art and history of this fine city. I was just actually leaving the Louvre when I got caught up in the fiasco that was the Pro-straight marriage demonstration. Over 100 people were arrested and the entire Champs-Elysses was swarming with police. So please excuse the fukk out of me for letting my coli brothers know what the hell is going on across the pond. I assume if I had posted how I just got sodomized you wouldn't have had a problem with my post?

I believe that the state has no issue being involved in peoples private lives. If two people want to get married in a religous ceremony, so be it. Outside of that - civil partnership for all. Wanna show your love for a person from the same sex, your tv, sheep - do your thing. Enjoy your civil partnership. Civil partnerships for all. Just dont expect tax breaks, special treatment or for visas to be issued(id do away with all spousal visas).

But marriage is a religious and cultural ceremony strictly between a man and woman. I support equality for gays. But stop trying to change thousands of years worth of cultural tradition to suit your agenda.:beli:

I sort of agree with this.

To me marriage in the eyes of the state and in the eyes of God/Church are to totally different things.

I don't understand how people make this some type of religious/moral issue when its really about getting tax benefits and legal documents. God doesn't care about USA, France, or anyone else's laws.

Now if you want to get married in a church that a whole different situation, and if your church allows Homosexuals to get married that between you, your church, and GOD.

What would be fair would either be we do away with legal marriages altogether and know gains any type of benefit.

Or just let whoever get "married" to whoever as long as they are of age and consenting.

As a frenchy who lives in France,

The rally was at 99.99% composed by :
- Right wingers
- Bourgeois, rich/"good" familiies
- Traditionnalist catholics
- Nationalists
- Extreme/Far-rightists

As for the numbers, in France you always have huuuuge gaps between the protesters (either rightist of leftist) count and the official (police) count due to the way of counting :
- The protesters take the width of the rally and multiply it by the length of the procession without taking into account the multiple voids in it.
- The police count 1 by 1 (they're in a building with cameras, computers or hand tally counters) and their either get a total of a portion and multiply it or they count the whole rally (depending of the size of it).

What I do generally myself is taking the two numbers into account and taking 2/3 of the police figures and 1/3 of the protesters figures. For this one, IMO, the total number is more around 400K. Which is still huge.

The law is already passed and supported by a majority of the french and that was the last rally of the "Manif pour tous" ("Rally for everybody" because 1. usually, only the left rallies and them rallying is unusual and 2. the name of the law is "Marriage pour tous" ("Marriage for everybody")).

What's important to understand is that there are two marriages in France (and surely in most parts of the world) :
- the civil one (in the mayor office) : regulated by the law, because it gives legal/financial benefits
- the religious one (in the church for example) : regulated by the religion of the married
It's then illegal to be religiously married without being civilly married first but you can get civilly married without being religiously.

The law that were passed earlier that month only permits same sex civil marriage and then gives homosexual people the right to marry and obviously the right to get the same benefits as heterosexual people through marriage.

The protesters make it a moral/religious issue (a familiy is a father, a mother and children) while IMO, it's just a legal issue about two people wanting to be married.
They also think this law will be a trojan horse to pass a new one about surrogacy which is forbidden in France.

The Ummah!
I dont agree with gay marriage, but why are the people of France so full of hate? There are never any stories of the French loving one another for their differences.

Peace be with you.

Marriage is a contractual agreement between two people that is recognized by the state. That's why you need a marriage license to get married and a judge when you get divorced.

What happens in church is just a ceremony.

Atleast in the US. Don't know how it is in Ireland.

gay marriage was passed in DC because the supporters got the religious leaders on board, giving them an option to refuse to perform any ceremony they didn't want to. hence the name of Religious Freedom And Civil Marriage Equality Amendment Act

ireland just legalized divorce in 1996 :heh:

get married in ireland brehs

This the part I don't get. If its contractual agreement between the state. Why is such a big deal.

Its a contract nothing more nothing less. We have bigger issue that need to be dealt with in this country and around the world.
