Did y'all know the original 2nd amendment text written by Sam Adams read:

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; a well armed and well regulated militia being the best security of a free country; but no person religiously scrupulous of bearing arms shall be compelled to render military service in person.

Was changed to:


A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.


In order to protect Southern State militias whose main objective was quelling slave revolts. Patrick Henry and Southern states argued that a national militia could not be relied upon to act in the best interests of slave owning states.

How has it served it’s Purpose? It was created for the people to always be armed and ready to start a revolution Incase the government at any given time become abusive with its power again..Which is something we been seeing a lot more of the past couple of decades..Take away ppl guns and ppl are defenseless against their government which at any giving time can become corrupt
