People don't realize how bad it is for stuff like this to keep happening.

If rats are dying en masse what happens to animals that survive off eating rats? And when those animals die what happens to the animals that eat them?

Feral pigs becoming a problem in Puerto Rico

The OP talks about how those particular pigs can't be killed for food because they carry 30 different diseases, including various types of herpes.

Imagine going to Puerto Rico, accidentally eating a contaminated pig, and now you have to explain to people why you have those cold sores.

Why does NYC have so many rats compared to other major cities?
Been to plenty of cities with large concentrated downtown areas, LA/Chicago/Houston/Philly/DC/SF/Bangkok/Paris etc, none of them had rat problems like NYC. even dirty places like philly, SF and baltimore

nah DC rats are terrible. I live right off Dupont circle…the circle is full of them at night. And all in the alleys behind restaurants. I can easily count 10 or more every night whenever I look out my window

Whats even crazier is that it may only be 5% of the total rat population, with that said I've seen them out in the open more which usually means food has to be some what scarce.
