Brehs need to read the book because it talks about aspects of religion and sex that relates to lynching, like white men be obsessed that white women will be "tainted" by black men, modern day equivalent is the way the porn industry operates.
The way history is taught in this country though you can't really get a clear grasp about lynching unless you do your own research because people out here think that there were 200,000 lynchings during the span of the Pre-Civil rights era, when it was really close to 4,800 that were accounted for. But the whole thing was the constant threat because for a period lynching started getting more and more barbaric so it became like domestic terrorism. And alot of these lynchings came from mob "justice" were people would be arrested and then kidnapped and lynched before they went to trial. I've read so much of that stuff and it still happens today when people don't look at legal cases and just be out for blood
There were other cases that lynch mobs were blocked from lynching and then the black man would win a fiscal judgment when the cases went to higher courts.
