Thats kind of a fabrication. 2 million sales sounds good when you just say that, but MVC2 made WAYYYYYY more than that. On wikipedia it says the ps3 and 360 port sold 1.4 million. Now lets think about how many Dreamcast sales numbers there were? Then think how many ps2 sales numbers there were? Then think about the actual arcade cabs that flooded the country.
When we think about that then MVC3 was not that big of a success.

This is coming from some1 who preordered n went to a smelly mid night release for MVC3. I liked the game but the narrative that it was successful is a lil off.


Plus better to just look at Street Fighter IV sale numbers. That game sold way more copies than Marvel 3. As much as I love Street Fighter 3 third strike(prob my fav fighter) that shyt did not do numbers like Marvel 2. I bring up Third Strike cause that was from that same era. MVC was bigger than SF.

Nobody gave a fukk about third strike until evo moment 37. comparing sf3 vs mvc2 and sf4 vs mvc3 is kind of silly. for the most part sf has always done better than Marvel. SF3 gutted most of the characters people cared about and filled the cast with a whole bunch of unknown characters and that reflected in the sales. I don't know why people want to act like 3rd strike was a big thing when it really wasn't. SF4 brought back a lot of the more popular characters and revitalized the fighting game genre.

in terms of sales Marvel 3 did well. Marvel 3 didn't even have the advantage of the arcade scene because it was pretty much dead when it came out. on top of that if we are going to compare console releases Marvel 3 still sold more than 2. Marvel 3 sold over 3 million (including Ultimate). Only the ps3/360 versions broke over a million for Marvel 2. Dreamcast/ps2/Xbox versions did not break a million.

So whats your argument. Even with 3 milli, Marvel 2 shyts all over it sales wise on console which makes it a disappointment (also where are you getting the numbers for the Dreamcast, ps2 and Xbox sales, I couldnt find anything on that???). Marvel 3 had Street Fighter IV's buzz working for it, but most people went back to SF4 and dropped Marvel. Plus a ton of MVC2 heads dont like Marvel 3, it is what it is.

Marvel 3 was hurt due to Capcom losing the license, but honestly if the game was true fire it would have done SF4 numbers. Marvel 2 was that popular. As cool as Ryu and Ken are, Marvel reaches a broader audience due to it being Marvel breh. SFIV total sales around 9 milli. Thats a success.

Plus you argue that the dying arcade scene hurt Marvel.... but somehow that argument doesnt exist for SF4

Marvel 2 ain't close to sf4 in success either do what's your point? Marvel 3 sold than more than 2 so how is 2 shytting on 3 in sales? on top of that Marvel 3 has been released on 2 platforms vs the 6 2 was on.

in America the arcade scene was damn near dead. Japan doesnt even fukk with Marvel like thst but they do for SF. Marvel 3 didn't even have an arcade release so bringing up arcades doesn't even make sense in comparing the two.
