What makes what Wesley Snipes did even more impressive is he did an unknown character in 98 exactly the way that he wanted to do it. He literally carried the entire comic book movie world on his back with that one movie.
Young folks don't realize how big of a star he was back then and if that movie bombed his career would have went down the toilet.
It was Denzel, Will Smith, Fishburne and then him. You could flip him and Fishburne too. And Smith was just coming into being a movie guy. He might have been #2. He was a force at his peak.
It was rated R it was violent it was action-packed. And this was after the all-time epic DISASTER of Batman & Robin where the genre was dead.

In 1992, Snipes bought the rights to Black Panther, with the intention of bringing the King of Wakanda to the big screen. However, difficulties in cracking the script and finding a suitable director, along with budgetary concerns caused by the cutting-edge special effects that would be needed to bring the story to life, saw the actor eventually drop the project altogether and move onto Blade
Who in the HELL thought he was an appropriate follow up to Cottonmouth?
THAT DIAMOND BACK ARC WAS WOAT
Now they're just playing in Ali's face
I knew Reynolds wasn’t working with Snipes again I’m crying. They really did blackballed homie. Only our OGs are giving Wesley roles.
It's wild tooMarvel will extend that blackball since Snipes is taking shots at them. It's a shame Snipes never gets the props he deserves from Marvel for his contributions to Blade. As stated many times at the time, it was his star power that brought people to see the first two movies. He was also a producer of the films and got his stunt fight team to work on them. Not to mention, Blade's coolness came from Snipes (the Black Fly sunglasses were a brand Snipes already wore). Snipes also designed weapons, such as the blade-a-rang, the sword (it was his idea to have the spikes come out of the handle), etc.
If you check other websites/forums or YouTube comments, you get people trying to downplay his contributions and big up Goyer because of what happened with Blade Tragedy, aka Trinity. People say he's difficult to work with and a method actor. Check the behind-the-scenes for the other two movies; he did the same thing back then. Since those films were successful, it wasn't an issue, though.
