Why are you fixated on monks? The Ancient One isn't a monk. Tilda Swinton also isn't wearing anything close to any of the robes you keep posting pics of...she is wearing something that looks like an Asian inspired Hillary Clinton pant suit.

That's what I don't understand either, but then again Marvel lost me when they said in this interpretation there have been multiple "Ancient Ones" in history. The whole point of the "one" being "ancient" is that he's been around since ancient times. That's what makes him ancient. They really wrote themselves into a corner trying too hard to be PC.
