That was a bit part and they made sure to point out that the character "would be late for his own funeral" :mjpls:

There was a black actor playing Sugar Ray Robinson in Raging Bull but I don't believe he had a line of dialog.

I'm drawing a blank on anything else. The closest you get to anything black in his films is the N word.
Yeah, and he was a character actor at the time. Not someone anyone would be 'pressed to work with'.
Ving Rhames had a decent part in "Bringing Out the Dead".

Yeah I didn’t want to play Samuel Jackson by mentioning that was the crackhead phase of his career, but year.

The last black person he worked with was a non speaking role for a black thief in “Killer of the flower moon”…..

A thief? How surprising.

I can at least respect Woody Allen for ignoring us all together. Scorsese will have a black person there just as a stereotype or give a white character a line of dialog reinforcing one.

There was this gem from The Departed; "That's what the N_ _ _ers don't understand. Nobody gives it to you, you have to take it."

Tell us how you really feel Marty :mjpls:

Yeah, that line irked me in that movie.
Anthony Anderson was in that as a plot device, elevated from a stereotype. I guess that's progress. lol

Woody had him a bed wench prostitute in one of his movie and some guys playing basketball. Aka the typical rich white NYer’s idea of black people.

Well that and he was a pervert….. :scust:

It's a culture difference

Denzel kinda spoke on this in the past

I don't think he's really capable of directing a black lead if the movie had to involve black culture.. he's limited in that way
I mean no one is asking him to do a movie with an all Black cast. But it's curious we rarely make it in his movies. We are like 11% of the US population. You would think we would find out way into more speaking roles.
It's a small thing, he's a great director with GREAT movies on his resume but this aspect is kinda glaring.

The problem is thinking a movie has to involve black culture if a prominent character is black. A lot of directors are exclusionary in what stories they tell so black actors will be left out. It's why I can't get into period pieces or war movies. You know going in it's lily white and if you see anyone black it's a servant or victim.

He's made his bones by making movies about shyt he knows about. Sadly in this country we're taught pretty much everything about white ppl/culture. Ppl his age don't know shyt about black ppl besides caricatures of black ppl. He's made some of the best movies ever. But yeah it would be dope if he had ever teamed up with one of our GOAT actors for an epic film. It won't make me dislike Goodfellas or Casino any less though. But he probably does harbor something against blacks though
