Wasnt one of the main complaints about the last airbender was that it was whitewashed? But its ok for this movie cuz a blond hottie showed her snatch. which is coo w. me but it seems like a double standard now.

Outside of Batou every main character in GITS is Japanese, breh. That's why they have Japanese names. If they weren't meant to be Japanese, they wouldn't have named them Japanese, like for instance Monster (90's Germany, although with a Japanese lead), Gunslinger Girl (Italy) and Baccano! (prohibition America).

The prevalent style used in anime is exactly that, a style. The 'white-washing' arguments mostly come from 'us' outsiders looking at that style and going "But that's not what Japanese people look like though?" :patrice:

No one stops to think why the hell tons of these characters have natural blue, green and purple hair color. You know why? Because it makes the characters look vivid among the other bright colors commonly used in anime and more strongly distinguishes the characters' looks.

No offense breh but I disagree 100%. The white washing argument isn't an argument, it's a fact. It's the reality of anime, since it's inception.

Like I said earlier Osamu Tezuka is the father of anime. He pulled the "big eyes" look from "Betty Boop":

His most famous character, and what jump started anime, is "Astroboy":

Yes I realize the characters are supposed to be Japanese....it doesn't change the fact that they were modeled after the Western ideal of beauty.

So playing the "white washing" card for a Japanese character is odd. That's all I'm saying.

Son....what? :what:

She was in "Wolf Of Wall Street". You do realize that alone means she has some level of recognition, right?

People are saying they should've went with a Japanese actress and can't name a single one.

It's not that Margot Robbie is so well known, it's that the suggest alternative is completely unknown.

What is hard to understand?

At least toss out some names, make an effort to back up the argument. Takako Matsu from "Confessions" for instance.

This thread is basically....

:stopitslime:"They should've went with a Japanese actress"

:ehh: "Oh ok, who then?"

:patrice::yeshrug:"Uh....Margot Robbie ain't well known!"

Fred.

Really what peeps should be saying is "Let Japan make the movie..."

If Hollywood is going to the make an adaptation of an anime this kind of shyt is going to happen all the time.

Like when they announced a live action Akira (which I think isn't happening anymore), I already assumed the main cast would be white actors.
