Mannie can believe this only because Hotboyz and Cash Money had the most influence, for a long time over the nikkas thats running the game right now, which would be the south.....but if New York was running the game obviously badboy and rocafella could be the one to blame....if west coast was running the game you would blame Pacs AEOM album etc.

Personally i looked at Cash Money the same as the typical nikkas that was in the gangsta rap lane, based on who i grew up listening too....if you was into mobb muzic like i was they was typical dopeboy rap...Baby was different, but he was CEO rap that fell into that Puffy category, and face it nobody took Puffy serious or wanted to be like that nikka nor Baby:mjlol:,and definitley not Mannie.

That was just the overall climate at the time in hiphop....but that era came to an end at the hands of Kanye, and Kanyes favorite rapper was not them cash money nikkas....todays floss is definitley a different variation of what Cash Money did,Mannie and the rest of yall not seeing the intracacies of this shyt:martin:

Mannie can take some blame in that era,and a little in this era,but influences change from era to era....youd have to study who influenced Cash Money and blame them too,if we just gon give Cash Money all the credit for this shyt that happened up unti now.

And nikkas who said this back then was haters, they hated the lack of lyricism more than the content....because the content was the same shyt coming out of the east,Mannie fell for the okey doke and let them shift all the blame over to cash money:martin:

:patrice:several of you cats have said this and I do get it

but y'all do realize that they added the term bling bling to the american lexicon right?

they redefined the word "bling" and it's even in the dictionary as such now

Definition of BLING

i mean that's something fellas :francis:
not even sure if any of them were even born or old enough to listen to rap

CM was initially just fronting with all this stuff. They didnt have all the stuff they rapped about. Especially on those early Big Tymers projects.

Meanwhile, Diddy was talking about "I gotta Benz I aint even drove yet" WAY before CM was making noise.

CM made their bragging raps cartoonish in an endearing way.

But they werent the first.

Dude, Master P. ws claiming Richmond California before it became cool to claim New Orleans AFTER Cash Money

this is revisionist history.

by the time no limit became a national powerhouse, they were claiming new Orleans. this was long before people outside of the south had even heard of cash money.
no limit made it cool to claim not only new Orleans, but they made it cool to follow the southern hip-hop scene. PERIOD.

and most people who are casuals of no limit, or southern rap in general, don't even know anything about the Richmond days.

I think it's hilarious people were saying this back in the day....got called haters....and now Manny Fresh is actually saying it's accurate.

And for the record saying CMR music had content is like saying 2 Live Crew had content....it's not wrong, but you know damn well what they're actually known for. If I get bored later I'll dig out an old Hot Boys interview....I think from Blaze magazine...all they did the whole time was argue over who had the best watch. The only person that wanted to talk about music was Turk.

And for the record Manny Fresh saying this =/= CMR is the only reason. But at least he's acknowledging their part in it.

Fred.

2 live crew? really?

you've obviously never listened to a CMR album.

please show me a hot boys album - group or solo, that is mostly flash or flossy.

i'll wait.

talking about songs that you still hear on a regular basis

like in the clubs or in movies; i still hear ying yang twins old songs in the club today

outside of down for my N's and Back that ass up what songs are people still playing from cash money and no limit

that's what i mean...not talking about what you play when you're by yourself just listening to music

you live in an alternate universe.

you live in an alternate universe.

you're debating with your emotions and opinions

you love those songs so you're bearhugging them to your grave

that's fine, but the rest of the world moved on and you clearly can't take it :coffee:

Just because it didn't transition into popular culture dosent always make the music disposable and vice versa

i think ice ice baby is corny, but you'll still have a chance to hear it today

i think for what its worth CMB, had 1 hell of a mainstream run considering that rap/hip hop has a way harder time hitting the pop culture climax...

Bling Bling is in pop culture history along with changing the landscape
Back that azz up is in pop culture history along with changing the landscape
hell get ur roll on had a 2nd wind in the midnight club game
still fly had a pretty good run and was even remixed by a metal band:yeshrug:

so in otherwords, there is no barometer or criteria for what we consider "timeless" music? music that stands the test of time?

i mean let's just pretend this isn't a thing and formulate our arguments around this :mjlol:

well, you're free to believe what you want - but in the real world, songs that are played routinely in clubs, at parties, events, decade after decade are considered timeless

"ice ice baby" IS a corny song, but i heard it used in a chewing gum commercial, plus they use it to open up his TV show - it's a timeless record. it will never die.

for the 8th time in this discussion: Down for my N's, and Back that Ass Up are the only songs from No limit/Cash Money that are universally seen as timeless records

the only thing you dudes are saying to disagree with this are your opinions and feelings - reality be damned :mjlol:

Harlem World > any Cash Money album :umad:

shyt... 99% of Cash Money releases aren't even as good as No Way Out. fukk you talking about :mjlol:

400 Degreez>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.Any non Biggie "Bad Boy" release

damn shame that the only song that stood the test of time was "back that ass up"

just like "down for my N's" is the only no-limit song that did too :francis:

Eh, I'd go with "I'm Bout It, bout It" as the prototypical No lImit song from the mid '90s and "Make Em Say Uggggh".

I just saw that video on VH1 the other day.

You can repeat billion times, it don't make it true. The fact you have to repeat like a mantra make it false.

Here you're maybe the only one to say that while we are many to say you're wrong.

You go to youtube and some songs have million views over the time.

And who cares if rap songs are forgotten by the people who don't listen rap other than radio single.

Breh I respect you as a poster but I been into rap longer than you been alive. Please don't ever question what I've heard.

I heard all CMR shyt....I never said Hot Boys specifically was on that shyt....I never even said CMR was the main reason for what Manny is saying....I said CMR was known for it and helped popularize it. And they did. Out of Manny's own mouth. Like other people have pointed out, they literally put the term "bling" in the dictionary. Please show me a term any of those Hot Boys produced, group or solo, that became a part of American vernacular. You can't, because it never happened, outside of "bling".

It's :mindblown: how somebody from that actual camp can acknowledge all this, but the fans still can't.

Fred.

dude....re-read your arguments back out loud to yourself and you'll see how they don't make sense

you do realize that thousands of songs are released by record labels every year right?

any genre - rap, country, rock etc etc...

out of those thousands, a few actually stand the test of time and are played regularly decades after

take motown for instance, MOST of them stood the test of time. this is why they are considered so great.

my argument is that out of all the songs no limit/cash money released, not many of them stood the test of time

you do realize that this is not a statement of opinion, it is a statement of fact. when was the last time you heard GET YOUR ROLL ON

or BOUT IT BOUT IT without seeking it out yourself?

anybody arguing that they hear BOUT IT BOUT IT all the time still to this day is full of shyt..

you'll hear SUPERSTITION by stevie wonder in so many promo's and commercials it's not even funny

some of you dudes need to learn how to debate and argue your points with facts and not emotions :hhh:

Nah, there was at least a little substance with Bad Boy and Rocafella.

Fresh knows what he's talking about.

nikka I already responded to the OP.

That was the only reaction I had for your post.

Those songs are terrible.
So instead of just admitting you're wrong like a man and a sane person

You try to deflect and move the goalpost?

Smh

Why even mention non-Biggie? Just include Biggie. I know your coastal insecurity wants to.

shoot, I will.

400 degreez >>> any biggie album

they still play no limit & cash money sets in the clubs, parties, & on the radio, even in their weakest markets.

to this day, theyre still the 2 biggest crews to come out of an entire region.

just admit you don't know what youre talking about.

either you misinterpreted my post, or youre trying to backtrack on the slick.

CLEARLY, I was responding to the content below:

in fairness, I will admit that I didn't notice the latter sentence until now.
