In the Silver Lining
but there was still a balance in hip hop when they were doing their thing

talib kweli, common, dead prez - all of them were popping in that era and were signed to major labels and getting radio play/music video spins

Exactly. Balance in the music. Even if it was 75% non-conscious rap....it was still 25% that could arguably be called somewhat consciousand somewhat positive.

Nah drakes music isn't high quality
sure it is. he has some of the best produced songs in total of anyone from this era.

The truth is. sound quality wise. and If people like the music even after two weeks. it's, kendrick, cole, drake. those 3. everyone else is trying to get in where they fit in. and most of that mumble rap/trap rap stuff wont last long. we might be able to slide future in their. but thats it.

again i dont look at drake as some great rapper. i think him + his team = a drake the band basically. drake inc. they do a solid job for making this era type of music sound decent. thats a fact. even if i aint really feeling his music like that. i can't lie about the quality.

Yeah...I wouldn't give Cash Money full credit for bringing the flashy, big time lifestyle to Hip Hop

He shouldn't be regretting anything, the man helped build an empire solely off the back of his production
Was he ever compensated appropriately for his work?:patrice:

I think people who were die hard fans do but that's not what I'm arguing - my point is nobody is playing those songs like that.

they played ying yang twins "get low" in a NEW movie breh, I can't think of the name but it was where the lady was off in the woods by a camp fire - somebody help me

I understand, but how many pre-2003 songs are getting play like that in mainstream media? Many fans of the 90s still bump that oldschool No Limit

We getting so old that we forget that Cash Money/Ruff Ryders/Roc-A-Fella is our old school:francis:

the way we went back and listened to the older hip hop is the same way these kids are gonna do..

a lot? not even being a smartass but just watch tv for a few hours and count how many songs they use from the 70's-90's in commercials and promo's

Katrina and the waves "walking on sunshine" is the most valuable song in BMI's catalogue because of how often it's used - you literally hear that song everywhere it seems

in hip hop culture songs die in a matter of months, but to the rest of the world songs and good music actually last forever

Just because it didn't transition into popular culture dosent always make the music disposable and vice versa

i think ice ice baby is corny, but you'll still have a chance to hear it today

i think for what its worth CMB, had 1 hell of a mainstream run considering that rap/hip hop has a way harder time hitting the pop culture climax...

Bling Bling is in pop culture history along with changing the landscape
Back that azz up is in pop culture history along with changing the landscape
hell get ur roll on had a 2nd wind in the midnight club game
still fly had a pretty good run and was even remixed by a metal band:yeshrug:
