Frieren Vol 7

This was a more chill volume. But still pretty well executed and honestly are a lot of the things that make this series very special imo.

After Frieren "failed" Serie passed everyone unexpectly. It seems it is exactly what Frieren said and she goes with her instincts rather than you would think is her ego. More so of Frieren really understanding Serie is when her apprentice asks Frieren for a match. Despite her cold nature Serie is someone who unconsciously admires each of her apprentices. Just by remembering each of their spells and personalities makes it obvious.

One really nice moment when Stark confirms to Fern that he isn't going anywhere. It is a really sweet moment since Fern was the one that made him want to join the party. With that being said Stark is still scared shytless of Fern. You also got some nice flashbacks like Himmel and Frieren in the present mentioning as a party they will flee together. As well Eisen mentioning to a young Stark that for the journey to the shallow hotspring wasn't worth it outside of the beautiful. Despite Eisen saying it wasn't worth it, the fact that Stark wants to go visit it just to experience what his master does was very touching. You also had the same royal family asking Frieren to recover the sword that a demon stole. The irony of it happening twice is quite ironic. But the fact that Frieren mentioned the reason for taking the job was that she didn't want Himmel's past efforts to go to waster and he wouldn't decline the job shows how much influence he had on her and how important of a person he was to her.

The part where Frieren talks about the "Hero of the South" was interesting. He defeated 3 of the sages of destruction while the heros party only defeated 2. Things could have been different if he was able to recruit Frieren rather then Himmel. But his foresight magic proably was something that made him not regret going the extra mile. Cause he knew Himmel and his party would recruit Frieren and defeat the demon lord. It show what an unshelfish hero he was.

Well that was a great unexpected chapter. Due to her craftsmanship Kyoko's hands never matched her beauty. But the way Shinataro complimented her gramps and her hands and then asking her out was beautifully done. I do admit this happened much sooner then I ever thought.

Frieren Vol 8

We start with some more connections from Frieren's old party. As unsurprisingly of Himmel he wanted to protect other people's home since he wouldn't be a hero if he didn't want to do that. At the same time Heiter's response to Frieren asking "What if the thing that you sought out leaved you with nothing but disappointment." With a great reply I would laugh it off. Kind of showcased the difference between human and the elf Millirade. Humans being together just being around others really enjoyed the journey and being around people. It seems very likely elves are very isolated issues and Milliride was by herself with disappointment. The journey for her was lonely thus she is just left with disappointment. Lastly Himmel brings a point about asking for rewards. The people that he helps are already in trouble as it is you don't need to have them worrying about their 'debt' to the hero. Get that sorted out as soon as possible so they don't have to be indebted to the party.

After a little bit of their travels they meet up with Genau and Methode on a first class mage assignment. Genau's character is actually very interesting. He is the type of person that looks down on what he really is. Mentioning how is a nice person. In comparison calling Stark, Genau and Methode a nice person and suggesting to not be like him. He feels like very calculated and realistic person rather then a cruel individual.

They ended up having to encounter the cause of the doom of the village, a gang led by the Divine Revolute. This demon can wield 4 fukking swords. FOUR! and not only that he can use magic to change the weight. Apparently Genau's former partner died against him while trying to protect a kid. It seems demons are very good at adapting to humans as we have seen with the case of the demon girl who pretended to call out for her mother. It seemed Revolute knew that the village would have somebody staying to guard and its scary he knew his best chance was taking out the mage 1 by 1.

During this a fight a big show for Genau's character as he tried protecting a lost child that he was unaware of. He even said to himself it would be impossible for a child to still be around and without a surprise it was a demon, tho not a very strong one. Luckily Genau was only wounded by it. But he is very very lucky Stark stayed back with him otherwise he would have been a goner as well.

The 3 girls ended up splitting up and encountering the other 2 demons. Because of the fog Fern+ Frieren and Methode were split up. And in a manner to make it worse the matchups that got split into were the worse for Fern and Methode. But one big thing Freiren has done for Fern is put her in the best position to grow. Just the fact that she had the confidence that Fern will pull it off really shows Fern's true strength. Once Mehtode dispelled the fog, it really showcased how fukking strong Fern is . The fact they had Frieren didn't have to do nothing really showcased how strong this party is.

Afterwords Methode volunteers to be the priest for their party, but Frieren declined saying that role belongs to Sein. Stark brings up a funny point that Sein would be pissed that Frieren declined to bring an older woman along Looking forward we see that Denken ends up fighting Macht the final remaing Sage of destruction. Assuming Freiren will be meeting up their as well, it will be interesting how they will work together.

How the hell are you going to power up and share your Anti-Magic with the Black Bulls who rely entirely on their magical abilities? I get the callback to the very first Dungeon and him being able to steal and use Noelle's magic but the reverse shouldn't be possible because his power is literally nullifying others.

Unless he pulls off some S Tier storytelling, this makes no sense at all.

Frieren Vol 9

This volume had more setup then I was expecting given the end of the previous, but honestly it took one of the things you assumed to be a universial fact and put a spin on it that you didn't see coming.

So for the start we basically got our lil team still adventuring. They first end up taking a job where they are asked to recover Himmel's old journey. But it was a sweet moment when the requester told Frieren to keep it. That panel of her immersed in reading and reliving the past really showed her heart. The other was to put a barrier around a beautiful sight which was due to a valuable mined resource. Tho the adventurer simply wants this view to be cherished, as that was their motivation to becoming one. Very similar to how the old heros party saw it back then.

Frieren and the gang get a quest now where they meet up with Denken in taking down the final Sage of Destruction, Macht. However given that we learn very quickly that Frieren isn't capable of beating him even now tells all you need to know that this finally might be a fight they can't win.

I do really like Denken's backstory as it shows someone who truly wants to do what is right, but is afraid to do so. The word in time implies that you plan on doing it. But when exactly? Denken just was afraid after losing his wife, he just couldn't just easily go back. Now he decided to come back home and end his life gave him a result he wasn't expecting. More so the memories from the past coming back to him. And now comes the regret that he should have came back sooner. But this is a very relatable manner and is greatly executed.

We also see that Edel and Lernen seeking to help Denken for this task. Tho we getting more backstory on Lernen and it seems like Denken was always there for him through thick and thin. And similar to Denken he too had something he intended to do, but kept putting it off. In this case paying back Denken for always being there for him through thick and thin. Edel is purely there as a mental mage, so he can extract Macht's memories. But remarkably these memories show how that Macht was willinglful in aiding humans for over a 100 years. Even before he was brainwashed with the bracelet.

Now getting back to the present we see that Denken is in talks with Macht, but things never go well. Remarkably enough Frieren actually joins him and interesting enough Macht doesn't remember Frieren. Which is strange. It makes you wonder if the bracelet had affect on his memories. But it is shown that like most Demons Macht was like your typical demon. But overtime like a lot of demons he learning different emotions that were unknown. But unlike most demons tho he was curious about it. Makes you wonder if Demon x Human society is managable or is Macht is truly an outlier. Guess it depends what Frieren can extract from Macht's memoreis thanks to Denken.

Also caught up Gokurakugai, since last time I read it, it was up till ch. 6 before so up to ch. 10 now. It holds a solid foundation for the cast. Solid setup as well for the villiain by making him be the cause of Kanata's death and giving a genuine friendship with Alma. The stuff with the maga is interesting lets see how the mangaka builds upon it. Since a lot of shounens can let that type of stuff get out of hand and making much more complex then it needs to be.



The Dangers in My Heart Ch. 126

Really nice chapter. Kyo is going through a stressful time and Yamada being there for him is going to be so crucial. Really nice moment at the end of the chapter.

Kagura coming to terms of feelings for Akagami is both cute and hilarious considering she presented the closest thing to a villain in this series. She is also looking out for Mia and everything with her agenda from her family she explicitly ignores herself.

Really nice chapter focusing on Subaru's birthday. Also Rintarou's older brother is back and he seems like a good guy based on first impression if you ignore the sleeping on stairs thing.

Frieren Vol 10

More good stuff

Here we start getting a detailed view on Macht's past which is really cool since most flashbacks were just from Frieren's perspective. Macht was a demon who thirsted to know more. The 2 being malice and regret the ones he talked about the most. Interesting enough his relationship with the demon king was just of obligation and duty. He truly seems like a demon that followed his own will.

He ends up having a very interesting relationship with the Fedual lord of Gluck. In some sense he was like a bodyguard for him who just observed how people were. He was asked by Gluck to be Denken's master in terms of magic. And with him he watched Denken grow stronger and marry Gluck's daughter. Once she died we see the despair that we know Denken has experienced.

The most ironic thing is that the corrupt nobles thought they could use Macht's magic to their benefit. To think they would create gold for their greed. This shows that humans can be as corrupt as demons in a different way. Eventually when Gluck's time was up is when the whole city turned gold. But Serie was there in the nik of time. And her knowing a counter spell was a matchup Macht can't win. Unfortunately the best that Serie could accomplish with her team was sealing Macht.

Everything was going good until this bytch Solitar (who was an untracked Greater Demon) destroyed the barrier sealing Macht. Unfortunately with Frieren absorbing Macht's memories they were left having to protect Frieren. First Fern and Stark had to fight against Solitar. And well despite the kind nature it is obvious that her intention were anything but that. It's clear there is more to her when she asks to fight questions. Fern did a really good job against her, but in the end they were no match for her.

On the other end Denken vs his old master Macht was a long contested battle. Denken getting reflecting magic and knowing Macht's tendencies was big in his favor. Unfortunately Macht able to reverse the golden curse on him made this a battle Denken couldn't win. So in a result at the moment both Denken, Stark and Fern are all down at the moment. But just as the gold spreads to Frieren she escapes. We got some hope on the way.

Just caught up with Frieren man this manga is special. They way it does its storytelling and how it presents the past and the present is top tier

Regarding the fights in Vol 11

Frieren vs Solitar was a very entertaining fight. As unlike a lot of other demons, Solitar did her homework on Frieren. Which made it her toughest fight yet. She actually seemed to be struggling during this fight. But it seemed like she was also trying to learn how dispell the gold from the town . She was fighting a greater demon AND trying to figure out that spell from the memories regarding Macht. The big key in doing this was that she was able to get Fern to get the winning kill on Sollitar. Solitar is the clear example of a demon where the words are 100% deceiving. While her desire to learn and experiment was genuine. The issue is she was a demon and thus how she would learn is very demon like and heartless.


Denken vs Macht rematch was really good. Denken stepped up and made sure he gave Macht all he can handle. But it shouldn't be a surprise that Macht had the upper hand again, but the shock of Frieren freeing the town was all Denken needed to catch Macht off guard and land the killing blow. Tho surprisingly Macht's death was surprisingly beautifully done. Macht similiar to the demon king wanted to live with humans. Unfortunately for the demon king it resulted in war with the humans. For Macht for him to figure out how to live with the humans would be something that Frieren mentioned would lead to the extinction of humans. Basically there wouldn't be a humanity that Macht would live alongside of.

As we get to the newest chapters 108 - 110.

Frieren being forcibly teleported in the past was a twist that I didn't see coming. At first it was sweet for her to see her old companions again. But it brought along an issue that she is much more powerful and knows much more magic then she did back then. You can see her struggle what she should do. That unexpected fight with Grusamm one of the seven mages of destruction. But him appearing brings the question how does this affect the future. As usual the rest of the party fully accepts it. But really begs the question how will they get her back to her present and how does this affect things for the party going forward.
