it's a combo of things:

- like mentioned by others, most are gaming on phones/tablets..
- these new games cost a lot to make, so companies want everyone to be able to play them...so they are making them easier....in some cases you cant die or the game will play itself for you....all which leads to lesser skills on the sticks...
- these kids care about more shyt than gaming...gaming was the shyt to us growing up, to them, it's not...

Kids still care about gaming, but unfortunately the shyt has turned into a strictly mass social activity for them. Ol let's play FarmVille on Facebook type shyt

We used to have to compete back then in fighting games...loser gave up the controller and get your turn again soon. fukk is this not dying shyt, these kids have no competitive spirit anymore

This is what really irks me about it all. It's like we raising a generation of losers and mediocrity and the lesson that's pumped behind it is to just be okay with that. Rubbish.

disagree...they still have competitive spirit, but the games have changed like you said...we had fighting games, they Farmville, candy crush, and shyt like that....and with the games being more social media focused, there's no need for them to sit in front of tv with a controller....hell, it's a reason there aren't a lot of arcades anymore...

Good thread. It's why you gotta salute the GAWDS like Atlus who pull no punches with the Dark Souls series. I was about 12-13 when Ninja Gaiden dropped on the OG Xbox and I beat that shyt 3 times, twice on the harder difficulty. Kids these days don't embrace the challenge. They want that microwave aim support call of duty and that's it. shyts waaaaack

Btw beat my first game at like 4 with my family watching. Mortal Kombat on the genesis

Not fukkin ridiculously hard, but at that age I knew when to use what combos and how to defend certain attacks. This "press X to win" generation is

lol...i'm not comparing the games, just saying how we were competitive at those types of games, they are at these type of games...these muthafukkas go hard on those games to try to reach the highest level between outta their friends...

and a lot of kids who are into "Real" video console games are competitive.... my little brother and his friends play DoTA and that shyt is just as challenging/competitive as anything we used to play

So I'm watching this kid play sound shapes on the vita for the first time and he is absolutely horrible at this shyt.

Kid is about 12, at 12 I was finishing resident evil with CHRIS.

All this making games accessible to everyone is giving these kids a pass for being TRASH. I'm almost tempted to recommend ninja gaiden sigma to this kid so he can just get a TASTE of what it was like.

To be fair this might be his first time playing any console game, but fukk that. I played TMNT when I was FIVE.

There is no incentive to be good at a game. When i was gaming on the GENESIS back in the 90 there weren't unlimited lives, unlimited continues, or memory cards. Every time i played sonic i had to start from the first zone.
