i agree... it's basically a combination of putting too much stress on your body

these dudes, up until 20-30 years ago... was just fukking off, hitting the gym after practice and training camp, and busting their ass on the field.. you just look at older eras, nobody is built, all cut up, like now a days. maybe a slim few

nowadays 5th round draft pics are looking like the rock out here.. they been playing since 5.. year round sports, 2-3 sports.. by the time they hit middle school, they are already focus training, drinking proteins, taking supplements....

and by college/pro they have on season programs, off season, specialized doctors, hyperbolic chambers, special equipment, pads, shoes, gloves to make the body do this, that, and the other.. the workouts are harder, they got way more of them, these dudes are putting all types of shyt in their bodies.. and still working them hard 24/7 so that we now have qb's like kaep, looking bigger than linebackers of the 60s

but genetically we are the same humans we always been. we are just pushing ourselves (well they are) to the limit... and sometimes when you got the needle at the limit, you go over and POP

It's always been s common injury, and the surgery's become much more effective in the last 25 years compared to, say, the rotator cuff.

On the other hand I think the fact that as many football players train to bulk up during hs/college as do means the connective tissue in these guys' knees can't take the strain from their mass and strength (see: Brian Orakpo :martin:)

Combination of things, shoes, fitness and overcompensation

-Shoes are no longer designed to support the natural arch in your foot, and because of that most athletes are flat footed today where 30 years ago the majority of athletes had a natural arch. Lack of arch wears down knee cartilage and weakens tendons
-We put more emphasis on building muscle mass than maintaining lean muscle. Its scary today how many young athletes don't stretch properly before engaging in physical activity. I often suggest a yoga regimen for young athletes
-When a player has a knee sprain or tendinitis or something like that, the player is only being treated for that injury with the goal to get back on the playing field as soon as THAT injury heals. Holistically, the doctor should be looking at the uninjured leg just as closely to watch for signs of overcompensation. Its crazy how many ACL tears occur on the "previously uninjured" limb

Dapped / repped . The decline of proper insoles/ inserts in sneakers ALREADY in shoes in the last 20 years has a lot to do with it. There's a huge market for orthotics now but most athletes aren't checking for that. You have all these high end shoes with their "advanced , ground breaking" features to improve the athletes' game but little to nothing to have their feet catch up with a shoe that can give them sharp cuts and explosive leaping abilities.

It's like having a new vette or Dodge Hemi with a cummins diesel engine but without seat belts .

Look at how violent some of the movements today are. NBA think of when ginobli brought his euro drop step, now you got dudes 100x more athletic doing it etc etc.
Crazy athlete or not, your body ain't supposed to do certain shyt :yeshug:

Weight training...your muscles generate more force than your tendons and ligaments can keep up with.

Plus athletes are just way more athletic than they were in the past...genetics, evolution, better training and equipment, and what not. I feel like high school star athletes can shyt on pros from the 60's.

Have you seen dudes like Bob Cousey play? He looks like a sorry lame at the ymca, but he's supposed to be this all time great. High school kids today would shyt all over him.
Is my guess:yeshrug:

i think it is too much, too intense, too soon
i support pitch limits in baseball, only so many snaps in football etc

in h.s. football, we had 4-5 players who never left the field in varsity games
that's just not right-
but the other coaches outvoted me

we had sophs who would play a full game with the varsity
then on monday, they would play both ways for the j.v. team
we had a true freshman play most of the j.v. game on monday
then played both ways for the freshman team on thursday
then played about 10-15 snaps during the varisty game
supposedly this is within the rules if playing different positions
but it just doesn't sound right when you say it outloud

obviously the kids want to play and win
and the coaches want to develop talent
but personally i think it's too much
