1. not crack. if it was crack, it would be easier to get him off it.
2. cutty was right. dukie was going to fail anyway because learning to box wasnt going to give him what he really needed in that city. also, cutty didnt know anything about life outside the corner or boxing. dookie needed something else.
3. the show is about endless cycles. this is how bubbles was created. that is the point of bringing kids into this. to show other parts of a cycle that you first saw in adult characters
Yup. You pretty much see all of the adult characters represented with those kids.

kenard was the next Bird

Was gonna say the same thing. And I think I read this elsewhere years ago from a Wire site.

But what waz Cutty supposed to do? Dookie came to him thinking learning to fight would make the fighting end. Cutty just gave it to him straight, that it's not going to solve his problems.

He didn't give him bad advice. He didn't really give him any advice at all. He just kept it real with him and told him whatever he's looking for, he doesn't have it, so he could never give it to him.

First of all Cutty threw someone who doesn’t know shyt about boxing in the ring to spar with someone who knows what they’re doing. Who the fukk does that? He needs to learn how to throw a punch first. Second, if Dookie really became a competent boxer and by chance a prospect, he’s getting respect in the neighborhood and get looked out after from the same drug dealers who were harassing him. We see this all the time with basketball players and other talented kids from the hood. Cutty told him that the world is bigger than his surroundings and he was right, and unwittingly told Dookie to use his fukking mind. Thing is Cutty didn’t know Dookie is hella smart. I mean you can tell after while by talking with someone. Pretty much anyone would pick that up talking to Dookie. I think Cutty just gave up too quickly on him. It’s like he’s looking for his meal ticket in one of them kids, hoping the next boxing prodigy falls into his lap.

Adopting him. Taking him in.
Lol what.

What kind of Leave it to Beaver existence are you living breh??

It’s Prez fault Dookie became an addict because Prez didn’t take him in? What kind of expectation would there be for him to take in a student who has no familial relation fo him?

I’m not blaming him directly retard. I’m saying Prez was the only person other than Mike that gave a shyt about Dook and saw potential in him. Namond got adopted by someone not related to him. Prez taking in Dook was to me how he makes amends for his fukk up in taking a life.

This is a great scene imo. Dukie's story is heartbreaking because how utterly the system fails him. And the people around him can't help because the system failed them too.

The series repeatedly shows how intelligent, resourceful, and compassionate Bubbles is. Dukie's story is to show that people that end up like Bubbles can be promising kids with futures who don't do anything wrong. Society is obsessed with blaming people's struggles on themselves. Dukie's story accurately reflects the sheer helplessness of it all.
This basically what I wanted to say but you said it way better
