I have close friends but also a lot of acquaintances. I'm more of a popular loner been one since high school.

Making friends becomes harder as we become adults. Sometimes, you need to be your own best friend when nobody else is there for you in critical times. We live in a individualistic "dog eat dog" society that focuses more on the self instead of a community. It's best to be alone than to deal with a toxic relationship or friendship.

At the end of the day, we're mostly going to be alone. Might as well enjoy your own company.

another terrible side effect from capitalism pushing a hyper individualistic society and also giving people barely any time to socialize because they spend most of their life working/trying to pay their bills as cost of living rises while income doesn’t match those changing dynamics 1:1.

That's not a side-effect, that's by design. Capitalism only possible enemy is workers creating an actual community of workers (as in trade unions) and to use their power in numbers to get better working conditions. Best believe, capitalism needs loneliness and isolated individuals.
