It sounds good, but our situation is different from everyone elses' in the world.
Do people remember what happened when we were able to "set up our own" successfully in places?
Breh, this is a defeatist mentality and a copout. Which unfortunately is the same mentality a lot of brothers offline have as well.
Yes, we remember what happened, but should that stop us from even trying? What kind of logic is that
Brothers complain about being discriminated against by other races they work for (mainly cacs), yet think doing nothing about it will somehow magically change the situation.
I have a clothing/sneaker shop in my hometown that's doing pretty good. And what's crazy is I don't know ANY other brothers around my age who are even remotely interested in trying to build. I'm not talking about drug dealer types of nikkas, i mean even the dudes who have a degree and a decent/good job. Most brothers aren't trying to start businesses together like that, even the ones who aren't struggling financially.
And all the other stores similar to mine are owned by either cacs, asians, or mexicans
I've honestly had some people giving me way more props than i feel i really deserve, simply for me being a young black man who's actually my own boss. Black men being bosses, instead of some white man's employee forever for some chump change, shouldn't be such a rare thing.
I shouldn't be seen as some sort of rarity for having my own business.
We should have just as many businesses popping as these asians & arabs. We haven't even tamed our OWN blocks, they set up shop there and extract wealth as well. No it won't happen overnight, and no one is saying it will. It would obviously take time to build, but it will never have a chance of happening if everyone has a defeated mentality where they don't even want to try.
Cats run out and buy sneakers every time they get their check, and post it all on IG, but would never think to get together and open up a shoe store. Or store of any kind tbh.
I'd rather we actually TRY than to just sit in the corner & say "b-b-but remember what happened to Black Wallstreet? Why should we try again?"
