I don't think it matters if Amare opts in or out. My understanding is that even if he played for free next season, we're still over the cap.

I think with Melo currenlty off the books, Amares 23m would've brought the team salary down to around 44m. Not enough for another max but definitely under the cap. Not that it would've ever happened, just sayin.

Yeah that's my understanding of the situation too. But in order for Amare to even consider opting out to restructure his deal, he, Melo, and Phil have to be on the same page. And it doesn't look like that's the case here.

Honestly, I'd rather just let Amare finish the year, then stretching out his years/money in an opt out handshake deal.

*Edit When I said it wouldn't bring us under the cap, that was assuming Melo was still on the books for next season.

Nah, dude is supposedly real serious with it. I believe he even has his kids practicing the religion.

Anyways, their was no way that Stat was going to opt out & leave guaranteed money

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
The Knicks fukked up by

1. Amnestying Billups when he was their best PG and not having a replacement. They could've used that on Amare and his :flabbynsick: knees.
2. Sign fat ass Raymond Felton
3. Overpay for Tyson Chandler.

At the end of the day I know they were trying to put quick fixes around Carmelo but they basically mortgaged everything into his first contract and didn't think about what would happened if he opted out.

At the time no one was saying that about chandler and honestly he just wasn't really a fit for woodsons "system" the plan was to get cp3 once he was traded they went after chandler . With stat he just had came off a real good season I don't think the Knicks were thinking he'd develop back injuries due to attempting unnecessarily fancy dunks . The Knicks real fukk up was not being able to convince bron to come here other than that realistically it was all bad timing with the lockout and then the new CBA but at least they took a shot and outside of last year I been entertained.( what I'm suprised people never bring up to criticize melo forcing his way here is that those same assets maybe get us cp3 to pair with melo but then again blame the lockouts timing )
