Shump Restoring Leg and Shunning Social Media:

New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert is spending his offseason working on strengthening his surgically repaired left knee and staying off social media.

Shumpert, speaking at his Citi Basketball Procamp at House of Sports on Tuesday, said he wants to be able to feel confident leaping off one leg -- something he couldn’t do last season. He has been strengthening his left leg, which sustained a torn ACL during his rookie season and a sprained MCL last season.

“All I’ve been working on is getting that trust in my left leg to take off from farther and take off earlier and use it a lot more cutting and slashing to the basket,” said Shumpert, who has been working out this offseason in Florida. “Definitely trusting going off two legs than going off one leg last year. ... This year I want to go off one leg just as much as I go off two.”

Meanwhile, Shumpert has stayed off social media this summer to steer clear of hearing trade rumors in which he is mentioned since last season ended.

“I used to react to it,” Shumpert said of trade rumors. “That along with too many people telling you what you need to be doing. It caused me to step away from social media. I let my agency run it now and I tell them what to put and they update it for me and follow along with what is going on.”

“I can’t have people always having their opinions floating my way,” Shumpert added. “I am done with that. I don’t have the apps on my phone.”

Shumpert is excited about the upcoming season with new coach Derek Fisher and the possibilities that come with playing in the triangle offense.

“I know this year in the offense I will have a lot more opportunities to cut and get to the basket,” said Shumpert, who averaged 6.7 points and 37.8 percent shooting last season. “I just want to work on the strength of my leg. Been working on that and being able to pull up off one or two dribbles [and working] on corner [3-pointers] and open 3s.”

when stat is healthy, he EATS.

im just hoping for a healthy season all around for the knicks. if the knicks can stay healthy they are going to be a good, possibly great team.

It's a shame that so few Knicks fans know this or so few are willing to say it. What do you expect from them this coming season and postseason (if healthy)?

Iman Shumpert: “New Triangle Offense Will Suit My Game”:

“There’s constant action going on,” Shumpert said. “I think I’ll be able to capitalize off that and I’ll be able to use my athleticism a lot more than standing in the corner.”

“I know this year, this offense, I’ll have a lot more opportunities to cut and get to the basket, so I just want to work on the strength in my leg and be able to jump off and be comfortable.”

“All I’ve been working on is just getting that trust back in my left leg, to take off from further, to take off earlier and use it a lot more, cutting and slashing to the basket”.

“I think we’ll be great,” Shumpert said. “This year, I think we’ll be able to clean up a lot of the stuff that we went through last year. I think it’s going to help us this year a lot, what we had to go through last year. I think it’ll give everybody that chip on their shoulder.”

i think there's only a handful of solid playoff teams in the east..

chicago
cleveland
charlotte
miami
washington

then a second tier of teams competing for playoff spots..

knicks
toronto
atlanta
indiana

and the knicks can beat any team in the east in a seven game series.

and then it's a best of 7 with whoever comes out of the west :yeshrug:

i think a lot depends on if the knicks can stay healthy, how quickly they adapt to the triangle, and how quickly the team chemistry and team confidence can build. clearly the knicks have deficiencies in defense and rebounding, which have to be addressed, but offensively they'll be able to score with anyone.

i really have no idea how this current team is going to play under this new leadership. but i love the coaching staff, the knicks have a talented roster, and i have a feeling they're going to surprise a lot of people this year :shaq:

Iman Shumpert on the New Crew, Melo's Return, & Changes to his Game:

On Tuesday evening in Ardsley, New York, Iman Shumpert was found joking, teaching, and hooping it up with youngsters at his basketball camp. The boisterous third-year pro from Chicago is back in the Big Apple where the Knicks will soon begin training camp in preparation for the highly anticipated season. While at his camp, Shumpert shared some thoughts on the new members of the team, Carmelo Anthony’s return, the changes in the East, and his evolving game.

Shumpert recently spent time at the Knicks training facility working out with last year’s first round pick Tim Hardaway Jr. and this year’s second round selection Cleanthony Early. The three guards/forwards are similar in body type and share versatile traits, which should be advantageous for the Knicks this upcoming season.

“Those guys are all energy guys, high energy guys like me,” Shumpert smiled. “All of them definitely have their skills and attributes they bring to the game but the most exciting about all of them is they like to run and I fit in there, so I’m going to love running beside them.”

Of course the operative word used there is “run.” Despite suiting up in 74 games this past season, Shumpert is still working his way back from a major knee injury in 2012 and a sprained left MCL last February. He finished strong in April by averaging 28.9 minutes per game while posting 8.4 points and five boards an outing. Over the summer, Shumpert focused on re-gaining trust in his ability to launch off his surgically repaired left leg with confidence.

He added, “Too many times I’m thinking about doing different moves instead of just picking a move, going to it and having a counter if they stop it.”

Considered a defensive ace, Shumpert can lock down positions 1-3 on the floor and has displayed long-range efficiency on the offensive side of the court. Shumpert believes his skillset will fit perfectly in the famous Triangle Offense that Derek Fisher will install this season.

“You can really start three guards,” he stated. “It really doesn’t matter. Everybody is going to get touches, everybody gets opportunities to cut, it keeps constant action going on, so I think that I will be able to capitalize off that and I will be able to use my athleticism a lot more than standing in the corner. “

Another player that should thrive in the Triangle Offense is Anthony. The seven-time All-Stark inked a long-term deal with the Knicks in July and Shumpert says the team will benefit on and off the floor.

“I think it will be great for the city,” he acknowledged. “I think it helps our confidence a lot in the locker room. Just to have him back, have him around, the double teams he brings, the advantages he brings when drawing up the scheme for the other team, it’s great. I think everybody is excited to have him back.”

Anthony is back in the fold to help the Knicks find the winning formula that was evident in the 54-win season in 2012-13. Last year, New York struggled to a 37-45 mark but a new coach, new offensive and defensive schemes, and a mix of veterans and youth should elevate the squad into playoff contention once again.

“I think everybody has been working hard this summer, and for whatever reason, we didn’t last year as far as playing bad or having a bad season; we learned from it and everybody gets a breath of fresh air, and now we go into this season and I think it will help us,” Shumpert admitted.

The Citi Iman Shumpert Basketball ProCamp took place at the House of Sports where the Knicks guard/forward led a camp of 100 boys and girls in grades 1-12.

Worst part is, when they struggled, Woodson still played an injured Swish over Tim :wow:, and Cole only averaged 7mpg (in only 46 games, mind you), despite Tyson and K-Mart missing a combined 77 games :what:. Felton should've been benched for Beno and Touré :sadcam:. STAT's minutes cap should have been 30 and not 22 (STAT even complained about this). Metta should have played more when he got healthy (Metta said he didn't understand why either). 'Melo should not have led the league in minutes played. NY had plenty of depth; Woodson didn't use it. :trash:
