Regardless your not asking a player like Monroe to be KG or Duncan on Defense. You just ask him to make improvements and let the Coach put him in favorable situations on Defense.

Look at Melo, his tenure in NY he hasn't played awful defense. His defense has been more of a positive than a detriment. Yet all I hear obnoxious Melo doesn't play defense rhetoric because the rest of the Knicks don't.

:wow:

IV is in here on his disrespectful shyt *stays off the coli for a few days*
But what does it accomplish ? If he wants to talk to himself he can talk to himself .nicca almost singlehandedly derailed the thread , you can disagree and be like trip or this guy who argues with everyone . Anyone who says everyone else is the problem clearly needs a long look in the mirror

Thank you . We aren't tanking so let's move on :snoop: to me it's like so they just hate Phil and his strategy since he didn't tank And offered Melo the max how can they be going so hard for tanking but be in Phil I trust makes no sense . Anyway. @Trip where you been breh ?? I can actually use your knowledge .

in the midst of a move....will be back soon.

:salute:

Melo is not long for SF any more. Gasol fits perfectly in the triangle and he plays defense.

we've had this debate before, Greg Monroe would be cheaper, younger, and could potentially be the Pau Gasol player to Melo's Kobe. The Money the knicks save on Greg could be used to potentially go after a a defensive big or swing to make the defense better. And unlike investing in Marc who along with Melo has a closing window. Getting Monroe now means the knicks can potentially have a player to build around once Melo starts to decline.

yeah monroe sucks on defense, but he could be hid,

There are some that would argue he's actually best suited for the 4. They'd actually be very good together.

But I'm not sure it's the best allocation of resources to have them both (hypothetically, of course)

It would kill our cap, but outside of some very unrealistic alternatives, I don't see a combination of players out there that would make this team a greater threat next season. I don't see Rondo coming here and he's not a fit for the system we're trying to implement anyway though he solves a glaring hole. Idk...

You make very succinct points using facts and reasoning

Like you?

Essentially doing exactly the same thing they did with Amare and Chandler. Mediocrity all over again.

You guys love to say Bigs can't play Defense
Al Jefferson couldn't play Defense, Last Year he Anchored a pretty fukking Defense.
Hell even Bargani plays solid Man to man Post defense.
"Pau Gasol can't play Defense" ... yet the fukking Lakers went to 3 straight finals
It's not we're getting Eddy Curry or Amar'e
Monroe as your 2nd or 3rd Option is very conducive to winning

It's true. Greg Monroe in theory could end up being a solid defender. There is time, and he could learn to be in position. I'd personally prefer Gasol, whom I just think is a much better option.

But Al Jefferson is only an alright defender. At best. Defensive Win Shares is a fluky stat. Lance Stephenson was number 6. He's a good defender, but 6th best in the league? That being said... there were definitely improvements. I woudldn't want him to be my number 1 or 2, but 3? Wouldn't be bad at all.

This is how I feel. I think he's awesome. Low-Key I think Marc Gasol is one of the best 8-10 players in the league.

Melo's defense has improved in New York, for sure. But he's still a middling defender.

Greg Monroe is never going to be as good as Pau Gasol. At his peak, one of the most efficient as his position, great defender, great passer, great rebounder (offensive and defensive)... doesn't mean he couldn't be useful.
